3rd albums missteps?

Featured Replies

We often talk about the sophomore curse, but it seems like there a few that a huge sophomore album, but failed to follow up commercially afterwards.

First two that come to mind are:

My December after Breakaway

Solar Power after melodrama.

What else?

Born This Way: Album of the decade fiasco, Madonna plagiarism, ugly cover and chart manipulation :deadbanana4:

Speak Now was a commercial decline from Fearless, but the quality overall was much higher. Plus, it sold a million copies week 1, is 6x platinum with SPS, and spent six weeks at the top of the BB200 abd yielded her first tour to gross over 100 million. The album was local (much more so than Fearless) and there was no LS or YBWM in terms of smash singles.

Cher Lloyds, album announced in 2015, lead single not released until 2018, 4 years later and still no release date :’(

Artpop is Lady Gaga's third album which definitely was her "third album misstep".

Born This Way is usually considered Gaga's best body of work. :michael:

Lana's Honeymoon wasn't a misstep per se, but it was definitely a flop compared to Ultraviolence and, of course, Born to Die. Also, it was acclaimed back then but now it is placed as her worst album by critics.

Gaga's ARTPOP :bam:

Selena's Rare :bam:

Miley's Can't Be Tamed :bam:

Sam Smith's Love Goes :bam:

Avril not releasing Runaway and Innocence as singles when they effortlessly charted on Bubbling Under as album tracks, instead she went with Hot and The Best Damn Thing

Not Control

Not Piez Descalsos

Not Britney

Not GGGB

Madonna can’t relate cause True Blue is ha best selling studio album what a legend :bibliahh:

Quality wise, I Am Sasha Fierce is her weakest album but it can’t be considered a misstep with its level of success and how it launched the “untouchable” aura that has followed Bey ever since.

A Night to Remember - Cyndi Lauper.

She calls it A Night to Forget.

No, I do not agree.

But it’s a fact sweetie. GP didn’t care about BTW singles. Only her first album had hits. :coffee:

Then why did you ask me if I agreed if it's such an irrefutable fact? Lol

Yet I find it to be one of her most enjoyable albums and I would say my favourite.

Solar power was just so underwhelming, after 2 amazing Albums. It’s actually crazy how meh SP was compared to them

of course! too bad she couldn't score any more top 10 hits in every single of her following studio albums and couldn't get to star in a few movies, tour stadiums etc.

GP really threw her to the trashcan after 2nd album :monkey:
