Female r&b ruled the decade.

I need to make a playlist with:

Deborah Cox - Nobody's Supposed to Be Here

Faith Evans - Soon as I Get Home

TLC - Creep

The big R&B artists were all effortlessly VOCALLY (the biggest missing piece of today's R&B) talented and had their own distinct sounds. the producers were also WAY more versed in the musicality aspect as well. The 2010's/2020's don't have their own Timbaland, Neptunes, Brian Morgan-Alexander, Babyface, Jermaine Dupri, Darkchild, Jimmy Jam/Terry Lewis, Teddy Riley, Chuck Thompson, Dallas Austin & Dare I Say... R. Kelly etc on a mainstream level. The 2000's also had producers like Scott Storch, Brian Michael Cox, Kanye, Rich Harrison + most of the aforementioned ones still in their primes. The 2010's/20's have Rap producers doing most of the R&B mess.

speaking of, Rap/Hip Hop has ventured too far into R&B territory and damn near engulfed the entire genre. You have rappers like Drake Rap/Singing & pretty much putting the R&B girls and boys out of commission because they want to follow the trend for a hit. and don't get me started on the fact that most of today's mainstream R&B artists couldn't hop on an umptempo bop and deliver the way the olds ones could. The think Mid tempos are Uptempos now :rip:

TLDR: The gorls either can't sing or have wack production

& to be fair... R&B is not the only genre to decline. most of them have imo...regarding the popular music that represents the genre today

90s rnb

2000s rnb

and rnb today are all superior esp the rnb girlies' music

rnb is just divine. idk how to describe it but rnb music perfectly captures the time it was released? idk if i'm making sense nn

I'd really love to read a sort of cultural analysis on this. Every cultural trend is a response to something and music is no different. Maybe it's because the 90s were some of the most conflict-free years in modern history so r&b was feel-good and carefree to match?
