Today I came across to this masterpiece, and it's been actually a long time since the last time I've heard it, and I regret not doing it so before.

To me, it sounds like a perfectly produced and done pop song, quite timeless if you ask me.

And lyrically? C'MON, she was just ahead of her time, it's insanely well written, the several points she made. :jonny2:

AND the music video screams 2000's fun pop, very nostalgic and fits perfectly.

Now c'mon y'all, it's time to appreciate this pop gem. :heart2:

‘I look at The Sun and I look in The Mirror, I’m on the right track yeah we’re on to a winner’

The way she was obviously talking about the two most absolute trash UK newspapers that couldn’t keep her name out of their mouths and it went over everybody’s head. Her mind :clap3:

You should check out her No Shame record. That’s also brilliantly written and the videos are also quite fun. I miss Lily. Hope she’s back soon

A CLASSIC:alexz:

I was just bopping  to this, 22, Chinese & Back To The Start the other day :katie2:

'Forget about guns and forget ammunition,
'Cause I'm killing them all on my own little mission,
Now I'm not a saint but I'm not a sinner,
Now everything is cool as long as I'm getting thinner'

I love this bridge so much. Such an intelligent, well-written pop song :clap3: The fact that this came out at the height of the glamorisation of trashy lifestyles, yet it reflects on it better than most songs that came out after everyone realised how awful that mentality was is a testament to how great of a song it is.

Life's about film stars and less about mothers
It's all about fast cars and cussing each other
But it doesn't matter 'cause I'm packing plastic
And that's what makes my life so f- fantastic

Classic :clap3: The way Lorde said she was inspired by this when she wrote Mood Ring

This era and Sophie Ellis Bextor's 'Read My Lips' to me are the best British pop girl eras that had global appeal but also felt very authentically and unmistakably British in sensibility. In the 2010s the British music biz figured out how to market pop girls globally more effectively but it always felt to me they did that by watering down the Britishness and emulating American acts (Ellie, Jessie J, Jess Glynne, Emeli Sande, etc). Whereas this Lily Allen album was a global success and yet could not have come from anywhere but Britain.

lily ate this up :jonny:

is the cover art supposed to spell out sia

  • 1 month later...

I remember listening to this song and album on my way home from school nearly every day after it was released.

Honestly its probably the album that got me more interested in pop music. I was one of those people who looked down on it until I gave it more of a chance, in favor of more rock oriented music.
