you claimed it was a basic jazz album in the same vein C2C/LFS when you are factually wrong cause it was an album to accompany a movie, it's pop - jazz - swing and was promoted through pop song

define acclaim for the most awarded Razzie actress Madonna?

OT: ASIB

Not you thinking calling Gaga's Jazz music basic is a saving grace :bibliahh:

C2C and L4S are classified as Pop - Jazz too. What's your point. :bibliahh:

And she got a Saturn award and generally was met with positive reviews for this role. the Jazz album was also acclaimed and is still included in critics list to this day - Slant Magazine named it the best album of the year 1990 recently for example. :ducky:

Exactly.

If the movie tanked, the soundtrack would have tanked too. The movie could have been successful, and the soundtrack could have tanked.

Either way, the soundtrack wouldn't have stood on its own without the movie's success.

It's so hard for you guys to acknowledge this.

ASIB is a film based around the music, it's not just some score that's used in the background of scenes to set a tone/mood. The film was used a vehicle for promoting the entire soundtrack, so yes the $120M budget + the huge push the film got does count for the massive promo and what helped the songs on the soundtrack do as well as they did. It does not compare at all to the minimal promo that TUN got.

Such simple arguments. :ducky:

I don't get what's the point of literally ignoring everything I said. :rip:

ASIB had a 6 months head-start, 2,510 x 180 = 452,000 so actually the difference is minimal af. :ducky:And again: Ariana wasn't bound to TUN like Gaga was to ASIB - hence why she had multiple smash projects going on for her simultaneously. Had she promoted TUN consistently from Feb-December she would have easily surpassed ASIB, no problem. But by then she was already moving onto other projects/songs.

Except I never said ASIB didn't smash. :rip: I'm just saying that this narrative the monsters are trying to push that TUN is this big pushed promoted era in comparison to ASIB is simply misleading.

And it's not an imaginary number. Deadline literally share these numbers :bibliahh:ASIB had a $36m production budget and a $116m marketing budget as per Deadline's report. The fact that the monsters pretend like a $120m marketing budget push (and the movie includes Shallow three times, and the other two songs as well) is this obscure indie project that successed cause of sheer greatness is delusional.

I couldn't care less about Madonna's panned film career, but even in her absolute lowest and most panned lane - 14 years into her career, Madonna's top 5 biggest movies accumulated a gross of one billion dollars in 2022 money. cm.gif  Evita, DT, ALOTO all out-grossed HOG and DSS out-grossed HOG in the US (it was only released in the US and the UK) but you continue pretending like getting a lobbied movie role every 5 years while completely giving up on your artistry is what Madonna fans crave. :rip:

Also Madge has a smash Jazz album cm.gif

I'm Breathless - 12,633,000

C2C - 1,775,000

L4S ~ 200,000

Oh so now you're able to acknowledge that a soundtrack accompanying a hit movie gains greater exposure than just a studio album :bibliahh:checkmate.

Not you attacking my braincells now cause you're mad :bibliahh:Vogue is one song.  The album is literally classified as Jazz / Swing.

A hit/acclaimed movie and role, a smash Jazz album and a song/video that brought underground culture to the mainstream (something Gaga has always set to do and failed) as well as reviving House music all in one punch? Sheesh. So much to be pressed about :ducky:

OT: ASIB was slightly bigger album-wise, but TUN as an album and its singles had much more chart longevity.

Either way, this is not a fair comparison considering TUN was carried by Ariana and her star power, whereas ASIB was backed up by a successful movie and a whole campaign to promote the soundtrack which was one of the main attentions of the movie.

ASIB longevity was insane with only 1 single  :skull:

Not to mention it CRUSHES TUN longevity in any market that is not the US.

Yes the movie helped the OST and vice versa, and once again, you're acting like having a successful movie where she was the main attraction is an easy fit :toofunny3:

We know this narrative has been used against soundtracks like The Gift but I fail to see where it compares?

ASIB is a MUSICAL film, which happened to be a Hollywood blockbuster movie hence why it can only have a direct impact to the soundtrack that it's attached to.

If you think ASIB as an album would have went anywhere without the movie, you lack more common sense than I thought. :gaycat3:

And the same can be said about the movie if the OST wasnt this monumental  :gaycat3:

Slant Magazine aka the magazine publication that hates on every female artist but madonna? it's like saying Selena Gomez is praised by Billboard magazine sis, it's useless

also basic was not a negative term, you also compare original songs to covers that were made over and over again

also wrong again she got NOMINATED for a Saturn award but didn't get it, and props on this being the only acting nod she had while the music was not towards her cause she didn't write a thing on that song

I never stated that it's easy. The thing is monsters go around acting like its success was all driven by Gaga and giving her too much credit.

Perhaps because the soundtrack was DEPENDENT on the movie's success, and not the other way around. :skull:

I doubt a soundtrack will be successful if the movie it's attached to tanked, don't you think?

ASIB stayed 2years in like 15+ Official Charts and 3years in 5 Official Charts..

tu,n only outlived ASIB US Wise

The truth is ASIB is currently almost 540k units ahead of Chartmasters estimates. With the ~500 daily consumption units difference between the two, it would take around 3 years (34 months, to be precise) to surpass that considering the difference remains constant. Maybe some of these Ariana "stans" should bump this thread in 2025 when TUN has surpassed ASIB. Until then, ASIB remains bigger and no amount of fuming or mental gymnastics will change that. Sorry!

Of course now all publications that dragged Gaga become dismissed because why? a Liddo said so! :gaycat6: She also won the GG for Evita so it wasn't her only nod. DS was also an acclaimed role. Either way it was more acclaimed and successful than Gaga's Jazz work and before you try it - the category Gaga won for C2C at the Grammy's didn't even exist in 1990.

She could have easily added a few words in and got a credit. :rip: Exactly like Gaga was exposed for trying to do that with Till It Happens To You and didn't the leaked documents in 2020 showed she only wrote 30% of Shallow and 20% of Always Remember Us? I mean the entire song is like 20 words.

And the soundtrack also HELPED the movie, as soon as Shallow was getting huge airplay it gave the movie legs and even more longevity.

Where did I downplay its success? :deadbanana2:I only said the massive promotional campaign it had helped push the music even further as it was intended to.  Not to mention the fact that the ASIB film series, done 3 times before, was already a major success and definitely helped with familiarity and interest amongst the GP + film enthusiasts to check this rendition out.

To sum it up

ASIB is a SMASH commercially and critically both the Film and Soundtrack??

Is that suppose to be a drag or something??

Just now, chosensparkles said:

So you're saying her songwriting didn't save the albums prior to ASIB, but we should believe that it did with ASIB.

If anything ASIB gave her exposure thanks to the movie after a streak of underperformances from her.

Apparently yes for OGHs, the movie should have flopped and not been promoted to consider the OST a success :cm:
