Anywhere with You is really inching towards SOTY status  what a f*cking MASTERPIECE, truly an anthem for the ages

It's so so so so One Of The Boys'd, like lower the tempo a little you could sing the title track over Shatter. Even the guitar licks remind me of Katy's lil "do-do-do, do-do-do-do-do-do".

 

And thus this is a SOTY candidate for me and I'm angry no one warned me about it! The rest of album is pretty decent too, don't get the cold reception - feels more faithfully and enjoyably 00s'd than a lot of other stuff riffing from that era. I will say the singles aren't the stronger tracks here, except Horses, which might have tainted it.

Anywhere with You is kind of an all-timer imo, it’s in my top 5 songs of the year and it just refuses to get old for me  it’s absolutely stunning and epic and just UGH this song is what indie rock should be in the 2020s

earlier this month Maggie told that she wrote a whole break-up album in between of Past life and Surrender to help herself heal and it will probably never see the light of day. 

 

 

she's also wrote 12 new songs in the latest impulse of inspiration! 

 

the way I just feel all of these would've entirely wash Surrender

I don't get the disappointment some of y'all feel towards Surrender  (and I love love love HIIAPL!!)

 

Maggie is an absolute powerhouse and while you could see and hear that in her live shows for years already, it only really started to show in her studio recordings with Surrender and that's fantastic imo. It's held up so well for me and honestly it's my favorite album of 2022. 

 

Really looking forward to what she's up to next

Just a reminder that "Anywhere with You" is a masterpiece.

This album is aging like fine wine and Symphony is still that girl.

tbf it didn't age, in the sense it was a dud and had no where to go.

she posted some stories saying LP3 is done and she'll sing the new songs during the summer festivals
