Wanna say because y'all are all here, my problems with A** and the rate process aren't with any of the regulars. Not like y'all have done anything wrong, it's just the system that is a mess

I will say that I don't disagree with the idea of letting users just start a rate, even if it ends up with 2 participants. Like Graffiti said, this forum is literally filled with pointless and unfunny "troll" threads every single day and they are rarely closed

I mean, I agree with you @Graffiti , I don't think that my idol rate would've been approved so I had to host in the j-pop fanbase, though it did cost me some visibility. I dread having to remind him about the approved grandmas rate...

I don't think there's anything necessarily wrong with a sign up process & queue to keep everything organized and cross check that a rate hasn't been done before, but everyone should be weighted the same without bias. First come, first serve so to speak and everyone has their opportunity. The biggest problem as I said in HQ is the dismissal of ideas because they don't meet a pre determined checklist. I'm very much of the mind the host knows what's best for their rate.

Yes and the sad part is you should never feel that way. Your rate should be queued up with a date set at the very least, wherein you don't have to chase after a start time.

I agree more people should be able to pitch and host their rate ideas the way they want them (I've had to really fight in the DMs a few times to stop someone or something being switched out or switched in!), and I think non-Anglosphere rate ideas definitely suffer the most overall. The amount of times I've pitched my damn Faye Wong rate...

I don't know about entirely throwing away the keys to let anyone host whatever, whenever though, which I think some people seem to want. But that's not referring to the original or niche ideas, which we need more of and I actively advocate for, more so it would just be redundant if anyone could just like... host a Gaga discography rate every few months or yet another rate with Blackout just because. Like, sure, there's nothing wrong with it really, but in the long run it just becomes the same thing over and over.

We've raised bringing back the queue a few times, particularly recently. On OldTRL you used to be able to "claim" something but if it got to a point where it didn't look feasible you could host it, or lost interest, and someone else wanted it, they could take it instead. I do think the queue would remedy a lot of people's issues, but it's kind of predicated on still maintaining some semblance of a signup process, you know?

As a rate regular, I definitely don't want people to feel a small group have the monopoly on rates by the way. That's why I always tag so many people in mine, even if I've never seen them in a rate thread before. Everyone's welcome, I love new people taking part! Just so happens that a lot of the time those people end up not taking part for whatever reason. It is just a tricky balancing act overall, in my opinion.

If anyone does want to host something, they just need to not be afraid to like... double text and stand their ground. At least while the current system is in place.

Anyway let me make a note to not host anything after this one wraps up for a little bit, just in case

I believe we should introduce mini-rates (max 20-30 songs) with a shorter submission period. This could help people test themselves as rate hosts without feeling the burden of longer reveals and the whole machine behind them.

Or even better, create new rate formats where people could rate whetever they would like to. I don't know, maybe a rate of the host's favorite songs of all time? Creativity should go berserk, and I don't understand why it still didn't happen. I do get the frustration many feel when dealing with this whole situation, cause it indeed feels invalidating

I love this idea. Quick rates. It would make it easier for people who want to do a rate but might find it overwhelming with this whole graphic design, preparations, reveals etc.

The way I actually thought of doing a film/performances related rate in here but I don't even know if that's a thing. The results would probably be a mess, though.

I've considered this before too (non-music rates don't need approval iirc by the way) but watching multiple movies is more time-consuming than listening to multiple albums so the logistics are tough to figure out
