Kimi ni Aete Yokatta is Kyoko Koizumi's 32nd single and her signature/most popular song in Japan, having sold over 1.5 million copies. It was released in 1991, signifying her viability as a succesful idol for another decade. The song was written by Kyoko herself and produced by Takeshi Kobayashi, famous for working with such rock bands as Mr.Children, YEN TOWN BAND and My Little Lover. The song was used as the opening theme of dorama 'Papa to Nacchan', where Kyoko also starred. Kyoko's account of what inspired the song differs. At one point she claimed that she wrote it as a break-up song based on her experience at the time. Later she said that the song was actually inspired by the male lead of the dorama, who played a father.

Sekaijuu no Dare Yori Kitto is Miho Nakayama's 25th single and her signature/most popular song in Japan, having sold over 2 million copies. It is also the most successful song in the rate and among her fellow idols, ranking as the 36th most successful single in Oricon's history. The song is a collaboration between Miho and WANDS, a rock band that debuted in 1991. The song was released in 1992, following the band's explosive rise with their third single. Miho co-wrote the song with the band's vocalist, Show Wesugi. As a rule, the song was used as the opening theme of Miho's dorama, 'Dareka ga Kanojo wo Aishiteru'. The single also contains Part II, a ballad rearrangement of the A-side that features Maki Ohguro and Keiko Utoku, two singers that blew up in the 90s, on the backing vocals.

Akai no Sweet Pie is Seiko Matsuda's 8th single and one of her signature/most well-known songs in Japan, having been officially covered dozens of times. It was released in 1982 and quickly hit no. 1 on the Oricon chart. The song was written by Takashi Matsumoto, one of Japan's most prolific songwriters and Seiko's frequent collabotator, and co-produced by Yumi Matsutoya (under a pen name) and her husband. The song contributed to Seiko's success among women... and to red sweet pea becoming a thing, as Japan only grew white and pink ones. Yuming requested a pen name to be used as she wanted people to connect to the song regardless of who wrote it, and she knew that her name would've been a draw. Citron contains the sequel to the song, while SEIKO MATSUDA 2020 has the English version.
