Actually it saved her career, cause she desperately needed actual interesting music and to show some artistry. If she had released another generic edm track she would have been sentenced (like Demi was). It basically planted the seed for the respect she is reaping nowadays, cause it showed people she has it in her and are rooting for that to come back. I can see why it is not everyone's cup of tea though. 

I'm so glad Calm Down has become one of her biggest hits (and thankful that it came out when the original was still not big at all). I hope it gets nominated at the VMAs and BBMAs (not sure if it is eligible at the EMAs) and of course the Grammys. 

 

I do wonder if the remix can be eligible at the BRITs, since it basically went top 10 when this year's eligibility period started. If it is I hope they nominate the remix, cause while the chart rules have prevented her from getting her deserved credit, the entirety of that country has consumed the remix the most and all the top 40 radio shows always play her version (and let's not talk about which song charted the highest on iTunes, Apple Music and Spotify over there). 

 

I don't care if she doesn't go to all these shows I mentioned to possibly accept the award, but I do hope she attends the Grammys if they get the nom. Even if it charts throughout the summer, I'm sure she'll release something by then (maybe the lead?). She could kill two birds with one stone and attend to promote the album (that if she said is upbeat would work well for the summer) and be there with Rema for CD.

IFP didn't come out IMO because the West Side Story cover soundtrack got cancelled.

But it would fit for Barbie so it would be fun for it to be on there.

Hopefully Selena will be on it, as an actress. Even if now it's a series it could be a huge step for her acting career.

I feel Bad Liar was safer & more marketable than Fetish (at the time). But the GP weren’t really here for either of the songs. Demi’s & Miley’s 2017 singles did a lot better. 

Personally I love them though & Fetish is getting some appreciation on TikTok now. I wish she’d released the entire Seven Heavens album or that it had leaked.

Fetish smashed at digital sales it surpassed both despacito and Sorry not Sorry that were digital monsters and spamed like 70 #1 in itunes, it was unfortunate radios didn't played it

Yeah radio didn’t support it at all. That’s why I think they should’ve gone all out with Bad Liar. And in a perfect world for me, Issues would’ve been Selena’s song.

I feel like Interscope/Selena's team postponed the release of the lead single of the new album to Q3/Q4 only because of Calm Down 

 

It was a nice move actually. Since Selena's music career is going at 15 years already, it is better to have a smash hit on your hand than kill it to try another one. Plus we really needed a big smash hit on US that we never had till Calm Down, with a really big stability on the charts AND a nice peak on Billboard Hot 100

bad liar and fetish "underperformances" was never the big problem selenators and stan world believed it was in 2017. it was the opposite tbh... 

wolves and it aint me smashing since the release date (different from any DJ song that doesn't have an a-list collab) the same year proved that with a more commercial sound her music star power was huge. And at the same time that she was smashing with wolves and it aint me she was getting a more loyal and different audience with bad liar and fetish. it was honesly the perfect scenario for an album, those kind of audience she was building and 2017 is the kinda of audience that would LISTEN TO HER WHOLE ALBUM!! and all of that also having hit singles with more commercial tracks at the same time. it 

i could see a lot of non-singles having a lot of streams if released in 2017. it was going to be her most successful album for sure, too bad het health got in the way of it.

not only the spotify mess. on youtube it was blacklisted too, this ended just in 2019 or something. just like hands to myself that stayed years blacklisted too. 

when i say blacklisted i mean it didn't appear in ANY "suggested" list, not even on selena's songs. 

this wouldn't happen in 2023, selenators are way more united to warn selena's team about what's going on. (we shouldn't have to tho, but at least now we are and they seem to listen, Fetish for example is now #2 on her "The Hits" playlist on Spotify).
