They changed the rules and eligibility for the Best Music Film category at the Grammys, and now there's no need for it to have at least 51% of performance-based material. Biopics and dramatic feature films are not eligible. That makes me wonder if My Mind and Me is eligible since it is neither a biopic nor a dramatic feature film (and it does include music/performance segments). 

 

In case it is eligible I hope they submit it cause I think the potential Emmy nom could give it more momentum and leverage. 

 

If everything that's eligible is submitted at the Grammys then, the best outcome in November would be:

 

Calm Down:

- ROTY

- SOTY

- Pop Duo/Group Performance (or Best African Music Performance, but I just don't see them wanting to inaugurate the category nominating a Western artist + it has a better chance in the pop category since that one is more driven by success)

- Best Music Video (I would be more confident in this if it weren't for the new changes, but the video itself is nothing to write home about so it will probably not get in, and I'm not sure they'll submit it either but let's just go with it because why not?

My Mind & Me:

- Song Written for Visual Media (and/or/maybe Best Pop Solo Performance, although I doubt they'll even bother submitting it there, and they'd do the correct thing)

Selena Gomez: My Mind & Me:

- Music Film

 

The music video and music film categories are also now comprised of a commitee of experts in the craft/field, which is a good thing because the music video category was becoming an extension of ROTY, in some cases nominating basic as hell videos just because they were for a hit song.
