I think it mostly comes down to Nicki is so assertive & outspoken she could've never dated a famous guy. Rich and famous elite men generally want a woman who is submissive, worships them, doesn't think they're better than them, etc. Nicki thinks she is the smartest person in the room and will even go toe to toe with powerful men (Jay-Z). 

 

For a man to put up with her persona they'd realistically have to be an average guy who is willing to cater to her and let her be the one in the charge. 
 

It makes sense she'd choose someone she knew before fame, because he's an average guy and also showed he desired her prior to the money/fame. 
 

As for her ignoring the fact he's a sex offender and toxic she clearly is a classic case of woman with self-esteem issues and pick me syndrome. She probably genuinely is one of the women who convinces herself because her man treats her nice that he is incapable of causing harm to other women he's come across. She simply thinks they're just "bitter" and wants the man she has. 
 

She's so far gone at this point tbh, I really wonder if anyone in her life cared enough to stage some type of intervention. Cause she clearly is never going to seek help and guidance on her own, she will never admit her issues or take accountability for anything.
