Bloody Mary is obviously going to continue to grow throughout the month, but my stan delusion'd hope is that one of either Shallow, Poker Face, or ARUTW grow to one million daily streams. Even if it's just two Fridays in October it'd be cool to see. I'm not expecting it, but I also wasn't expecting the catalogue boost from SSOH either, so who knows?

I thought re Chromatica it was more due to them leaving popga in the past with katy and kesha, but i think the actual songs themselves regardless of genre didn't hit listeners very well tbh from some of the stats we see for her last album

Swift change of genre has always been in line with the kind of pop music and way of sing she usually does, it has never been extreme like releasing a jazz song, and the same for Beyoncè, even her dance album is still very much R&B oriented similar to her previous releases (see the R&B Grammys nominations for that project indeed), when it comes to Beyoncé, her fans didn't really support much the joint album with Jay-Z or the Lion King soundtrack that were both 2 big projects considering also the visuals she released for them.

Late reply here so sorry for dragging this on, but you are right. Neither have departed that much from what made them famous. I suppose 'Reputation' for Swift would be the biggest example and it is one of her "least liked" albums and yet still sold over a million copies first week.  Bey fans may not have liked her venture with Jay Z or her Lion King stuff, but they ultimately supported it and Bey's vision overall. The prevailing narrative I see from Bey fans is that they simply ignore those things as opposed to hyper focus on them in order to justify their anger towards her. I have no doubt that if either of these women departed from their usual like Gaga has done, their fanbases would very much support them.

 

The weird thing to me is, like, the argument is that if Gaga just released more content then her fans would be happy, but that has been proven false numerous times. Gaga fans are not content with just more content, that content has to be "trendy" and it has to be successful in order for a big portion of this fanbase to like it. On top of that, the content has to be promoted on every platform possible or "her team does not know what they are doing". It is as if, if she is not operating on a 2011 level, it is not enough, and that is a bar near impossible to jump over.
