If I remember he said something about Hilary being unprofessional, because Reach Out never got released as planned and it was delayed many times.

I recall when asked about pop stars he's worked with like her, he alluded to her being an artist who "doesn't care", which was vague...but I didn't think of it in a business context where he was upset about a song not getting released or something, so that's an interesting perspective.

I always thought he was coming for her work ethic which seemed way out of left field. Now he's kind of known for having an air about him and speaking out against anti-Tr*mp protests (?) so our girl stays winning.

I honestly feel so lucky to have this little space where I can share my love for Hil with others that admire her as much as I do and it's just so awesome that some of us have known each other since th

This is the infamous Tearing Down Walls that Hilary demoed back in 2013 when making her scrapped indie album.

Happy

Brave Heart &

Night Like This

Happy is the true album closer for me, those strings in the beginning are *chef's kiss*

My hot take is that the chorus needed to be reworked a bit, and takes the song down a small notch since I don't think the lyrics fit into it that well. Maybe it's too wordy? But "after all the things you put me through I'm finally getting over you" is perfection

Brave Heart is so special, you can tell Hilary really poured her heart into those lyrics. I love the bridge/chanting too

woah, really? sounds like a bop. not an instantly likeable one for me, but a bop yes.

Omg this is so chaotic, it's giving a bit of Charli too

She was really testing the waters back in '13...

Mine right now are:

Breathe In. Breathe Out.
Fly

Underneath This Smile

Arms Around a Memory

Holiday

Okay taste! BIBO (song) is one of my favs. We need more chill bops like that, so calming and suites her voice perfectly.

I guess now would be the time to declare that Underneath This Smile should have been the name of her second album, and reworked to cut a bunch of tracks (sorry Cry and Haters) and add Know You Know. I can post my tracklist here if there's any interest :chick1:

That's interesting. Some parts reminded me of Icona Pop ft Charli.

Funny how Hilary worked a lot with Billy Mann and none of the things she worked with him leaked or ended up on the album if I'm correct. And she even mentions him on BI.BO.'s thank you notes.

What a downfall to Ryan. Ewww.

But all the songs he did with Hilary ended up being just pop perfection.

100% agree on this! I, too, made a condensed version of the album a couple years ago:

Fly
Do You Want Me?
Weird
Hide Away
Mr James Dean
Underneath This Smile
Dangerous to Know
Who's That Girl?
Shine
I Am
The Getaway
Someone's Watching Over Me
Jericho

I utilized Crash World and Now You Know as a B-sides EP with the few other droplets from the era.

I hate how they had those two songs and they chose a cover to promote ACS! :oxygen2:

Right? I'm sure it was a strategic move on Hollywood Records' part to introduce Haylie as a singer by releasing OLAS to coincide with ASC.

And that's for nothing in the end.

a music video for Now you Know would suit perfectly to the movie 😭

Do You Want Me?

Weird

Underneath This Smile

Who's That Girl

The Getaway

Fly

Shine

Now You Know

Someone's Watching Over Me

Jericho

The Last Song + I Am (acoustic)

I like the idea of the first half being a bit darker and lyrically about her insecurities, and then ending the record with the more uplifting empowering tunes.

I appreciate Hide Away and Dangerous to Know (especially her vocals on them), but I think Who's That Girl covers what both were trying to accomplish

It's kind of crazy that Haylie's album never leaked, but I guess it's possible it wasn't completed once the Paris Hilton fiasco happened?

They really gave up on her. 😅

Wish we could have Material Girl on Spotify.

Sorry, not over that Luciana discovery. I think the user is right! Did some digging and some of the words from the song such as "call" & "tempo" are seen in these candids: https://www.alamy.com/stock-photo-hilary-duff-leaving-rehearsals-for-her-new-album-tearing-down-walls-71042713.html. I actually can envision Hilary singing this. Experimental, but not bad.

Strange how I cant find the official lyrics for Luciana's version. Even the writers of the song arent credited in her Spotify.

If you noticed in the bridge, Luciana sings "I show my stripes at the weekend, I wear my stripes wicked, wicked at the weekend" which are lyrics Hilary teased on Instagram in November of 2013. Luciana is responsible for Where the Gods Play as well but has not released it.

Can anyone provide the links or files for both versions of the self-titled album?
I just found out that there's an alternate version with some track differences, and I'd like to listen to them side by side.
Also, which version is on Spotify, and which songs are different between the two?

I don't feel like this was properly answered and it's a topic I'm very passionate about. The original version of the album can be found on LIVE HD's YouTube channel. Then in 2005 the album was reissued with Rock This World, Jericho, Cry and Haters being slightly remixed, this is the version that is on streaming and was pressed on the vinyl reissue. If anyone knows why they were remixed I've been dying to know for 20 years.

Rock This World: original version had a different intro and overlapping bgvs and adlibs from Hilary in the outro. The 2005 self titled version is similar to the Remix 2005 version from Most Wanted but fades out like the original.

Jericho: Original version has an extra guitar intro before the drum intro and a different outro. It's in clips from Raise Your Voice. It always reminded me of an insurance jingle that was on TV back then which is maybe why it was cut. Remix 2005 from Most Wanted was a completely different dance style remix.

Cry: original version is about 15 seconds shorter than the remix. The remix has a double chorus and slightly different fade out, it's the only remixed version I find superior to the original.

Haters: original has a radio tuning style intro and a different mix. Original mix is more exciting idk how else to explain, it's almost more poppy like Little Voice or Workin It Out.

Wait wdym Luciana is responsible for Where the Gods Play? She wrote that song?

Imagine if the 2013 EDM album came to fruition. It truly would have been an eccentric body of work by Hilary.

Yes!

There's so much music from her indie days that we'll forever be curious about. I don't know how Andre kept her vault under lock and key...I guess he was good for something lol.

I'm really surprised by the hype their comeback is still getting. Even now, I keep seeing TikToks from people or companies announcing it and asking what everyone's favorite song is. Especially in Latin America: "MTV, TNT, El País, El Mundo, etc."
I wonder if Atlantic is paying for this or if people genuinely want to listen (back in 2015 there wasn't nearly as much buzz).

Thank goodness she didn't invoke Andre again for this comeback. Remember when he booked her for the Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade? Gurl... glad she moved on.

Am I remembering her describe Where the Gods Play as some sort of dark EDM? Or did I totally make that up. I need to hear that song as well as the one we got a snippet of shortly after the BIBO era ended. Went something like

"all the precious memories// they haunt me // haunt me"

I'm kinda hoping she touches on what happened between her and Andre in the docuseries because she fired him not longer after BIBO's release.

I don't believe she's ever spoken about Where the Gods Play herself, but she did play the track to a loyal fan who described it as heavy EDM.

Ah yes, the infamous Tied to You still haunting us almost 10 years later. Her vocals sound really great on that snippet.

It's a bit annoying all of those hints… We want a date :deadbanana4:
