it's a great song, love the lyrics, so many songs on the album are underrated

It truly is one of her best 

I feel like if C,XOXO came out this year it would of been bigger, last year there were so many major releases and it didn't get the shine it deserved. I luv it could been the song of the summer

I think so too, , it was so hectic at the time, she could have had a better rollout, too many people dismissed it probably without hearing it

i still listen to c,xoxo all the time, i really don't get tired of it, but i don't think it flopped cos of lack of focus on it, the rollout was real "if it can go wrong it will" stuff (like, is there a moment in the last 15 years where having a drake song of yr album is actually a bad move, regardless of what you think of him, except for that specific moment when kendrick is dragging off the back of a truck in public). getting (unfairly) accused of ripping off charli right at the moment when she's taking off for the first time in a decade brings a lot of stuff with it too which probably wouldn't go any better now, in fact would probably be worse to be seen as stealing her moves now that brat's actually been a success

 

i wonder if maybe the issue is that she didn't prepare people enough for the change - taking a big swing twds more trad latin music on familia and then going way back the other way? perhaps she needed something in-between first to really sell the shift - working with dan nigro or *makes sign of cross* jack, something like that? or just have a few altpop stars actually prepared to speak up for it, that whole pre album era felt very lonely when everyone started coming for her.

 

but there's always the problem that a lot of people were prepared to let her do her latin stuff but authenticity policed her to death for not staying in her lane and idk if you can deal with that fully. it was clear that there were a lot of critics who were not interested in listening to it at all and normally that might not matter so much but, with the narrative that had already started going, it was just the last stick to beat her with.

Liar + Shameless single drop is still one of the highlights of her career so Jon Bellion is a good choice!

hopefully she will release at least a single during the upcoming tour. Camila has shows between June 28th and September 14th.
