Yes, there's a handful of the Hive who will dislike because of the Jay-Z connection, but I generally don't usually like when female artists make a point of constant nods to their menses. Note how it's never the other way around. We never got nor will we ever get a Jay album called "Hottest Chick in the Game Wearing My Chain".

 

Much like the Mrs Carter Tour, it's a clear nod (or implied nod) to her "married-into" family name. And... her man.

 

It's a very "I luh my man" move that we've seen from many female acts who not-so-coincidentally are always the bigger act than said man. 

 

I love The Carters and their whole royalty positioning, but In terms of future-proofing (because anything can happen), is it really most ideal having various projects bearing a name that may not always be hers (hypothetically speaking)?

 

Again, I literally have no issue with the title and am moreso excited that we finally have the preorder link, but yeah...I get why there could be some rustled feathers. A lil.

and this is a Beyoncé album. Her as a person is the primary focus not her status as “Jay Z’s wife” something that many ppl reduce her to

Carter is HER name....this a real marriage & a real family for the last 16 years. Whether she was a bank teller or a music artist....Carter is part of her identity too.

 

even if they divorced tomorrow...she spent 16 out of 22 years tied with it & birthed 3 children that carry the name. this hasn't been a fly by night relationship.

 

was she supposed to name the album Cowboy Knowles??

Well Beyoncé never had one before either, did she? It's also a play on her name. It's not just Jay’s name anymore, it is HER name. He might not have an album of that name but he has countless songs that glorify her, one you just quoted which is embed in Hip Hop culture as a way to declaring your undying love for a woman. 

There’s also more than 90% of his songs since they met that refer to her either by direct name or by innuendo. Every person has their love language and their way of loving. It's her choice and it's not our business. 

 

I also want to address the fact that the GP at large does not know that Jay-Z' name is Carter. Some became aware of it thanks to Beyoncé and the controversy of the Mrs. Carter WT so I doubt people will think of him when picking that album.

It's really not the name people truly associate with her lol. That's a married-into thing. Something she selectively plays up and plays down as she feels.

 

No one thinks of Beyonce Carter. She, for a very long time, went by Beyonce Knowles and that is what is cemented into public consciousness outside of her name as a singular mononym. 

 

If anything she and Jay played down the relationship and even their marriage for a lil bit. Ironically to keep that private and keep their artistic identities somewhat separate.

 

Even seeing "Beyonce Knowles-Carter" these days tends to catch me a lil off guard.

The issue is that you always have on this pseudo-business marketing Parkwood hat on. Everything is always about business & brand. Like I said, this is an actual family and that is her last name. she explained all of this back when ppl said things about the Mrs Carter tour. Carter is part of her identity..."brand" or not. It was never going to be Cowboy Knowles.
