It's fair to say that Beyoncé has made a career out of impactful videos that go alongside her work (as many have) and has been a major innovator in the genre of long-form/visual albums, while also saying that perhaps RENAISSANCE may not need visuals.

 

To say since Beyoncé has always done one thing (or is known for one thing, or has gotten success because of one thing) implies that she must now always do that one thing and is not free to branch out of the strategy, try new approaches, etc. seems very un-Beyoncé at this point. We know she likes to do thinks differently than others, and herself as well.

 

I still think we will get visuals, but clearly a year later and the album is doing pretty well without any major form of promo besides the tour.

 

I've said countless times before but it does seem that her being fine with no visuals for so long feels like an intention to make it all about the music. And intended or not, that is what has happened, and I think we can all agree we have a different relationship to RENAISSANCE than her other works because it's almost a more personal experience: you and the music. Not you and the choreography and the visuals and the promotion and all that.

 

Personally, I have never listened to an album so consistently as this, even a year later. And I'm sure any visuals give will further that with people, which is a plus because it boosts its commercial impact while also not impeding on the relationships to the work that have by now been well established.

the whole visuals things felt like a crutch and it started being used as a reason for her success & critical acclaim. the fact that Renaissance era got both in the absence of the visuals is a testament to the strength of the music & her artistry. i never said in any post that visuals weren't a significant part of her brand. we all recognize that. it's just that i'm not personally interested in begging over a year for videos when i don't need any visual aid for songs i already know & love. 

 

at this stage of the era...a concert film feels more impactful for the legacy of this era.

ya, I mean, I duno if they felt like she was leaning on them too much, but certainly I think she's aware that she put more information in the visuals that the music often didn't say, and her being such a musician first and foremost, it almost does seem like she wants or at least intended RENAISSANCE to debut just music, and have it say all she needs to say until the visuals can expand on it.

 

I also wonder if there's a bit of a "I'm going to prove haters wrong" element to it...because haters very much have spoken about how Lemonade wasn't as amazing of an album because of the fact that its praise came alongside the visual praise as well.

 

I think Black is King is a brilliant example of her using the visuals at a later date to not reveal something new, but add layers to what we already understood so we could take it to another level. The metaphysical storyline added a lot of nuance and power to the already iconic The Lion King plot and turned the film into a real masterpiece when it could have simply just been a string of videos matched to plot-points.

I'm confused about what you're asking, sis.  It's the longest-running #1 album this decade (20s), as the ones above it either came out in the 10s or 00s.

I’m more intrigued about the direction she will take with the other acts. Maybe that ties to the visuals being delayed or if she plans on taking this to theaters.
