Honestly, it felt unlikely that she'd release anything from the post-Love Sux sessions as time went on. She's super impulsive, and the longer she waits, the less likely it is for that material to ever see the light of day.

 

I'd love for her to work with Evan again, even just for a song or two—purely for the nostalgia.

 

We usually know when she's in the studio because she loves spamming those pics. But with the holidays, I doubt she recorded much recently. From January onward, though, I'm sure we'll start getting more updates.

 

That said, I'm more worried about the upcoming never-ending "I'm in the studio" saga than anything else.

I love all the Love sux outtakes. Joker, eternity are all bops. I wish she can release it with album 8 or just release the, when LS turns 10, which is never.

There was no reason to not release Love Sux 2 with all the songs that leaked anyway. For whatever reason artists (or labels?) don't like to release stuff that already leaked.

Between that and the abysmal album streams, failed radio payola, lack of top 5 hits, it is time to accept UMS hurt Avril's career far more than TBDT is claimed to have hurt.

I think the album was scrapped. AL8 was initially supposed to continue the Love Sux sound with the same writers and producers, but things seemed to change after Avril broke up with Mod Sun. Most of the leaked tracks appear to be from her 2023 sessions post-breakup, and many are demos or unfinished. It seems like she was recording to find inspiration, but nothing really stuck.

 

She spent last year touring, and based on what leakers have shared, the most recent tracks were from 2023. Either she recorded something early in 2024 or was just preparing for the tour. From her posts and interviews later in 2024, it sounds like she became inspired after the tour and plans to start working on AL8 from scratch.

 

It's possible she could repurpose one or two songs from the older material, but I think she had moved on from that direction even before the leaks happened. It sucks that we have to wait, but I don't think the delays are because of the leaks, it seems more like she just moved on from that material/sound. Considering the positive reviews from the tour, it feels like she might be inspired to record something closer to the vibe of her first two albums.
