The Kats have been calling it a global smash and making fun of other girls' singles for months though?  I'm glad Billboard spilt this tea for anyone who was remaining delusional.

It clearly did. Funny that a katy cat made a thread asking why the cure is at number 20 on itunes even thk CTTR is there too with a discount and a lot of radio airplay. I was told that MR was top ten for 2 months cuz of the discount so whats up?  However, Billboard shouldnt be writing stuff like that. The media was mainly responsible for Gagas meltdown in 2013 and its like super unprofessional. Why do they only mention the flops of the biggedt pop girls ? Also they never talk about when male artists underperfom. It needs to stop. 

It did. Not just in US tho so can we not with that excuse

Applause was 14 weeks in the top 10 and was considered a career ending flop.

"could be argued" also indicates uncertainty; it's not an outright underperformance, let alone a flop. Just "for Katy's previous standards [supported by 6 year old receipts]".

Congrats on those three European certifications, a real European smash would have many more. Nice try indeed! A global underperformance. Billboard did not lie.

It underperformed for Katy's extremely high standards but its still a big hit. Pop girls are held to such high standards and the thing is that nobody can stay on top all the time. Decline with every musical artist is bound to happen.

Katy's song never reached 100 million impressions on radios, but you tried.  

Billboard only stated what we all knew, it was only a hit in Europe, because it didn't do that well around here either.

It did well globally though

CTTR last promo was before the discount, hon. Gaga performed MR while it was discounted.

I think it did good indeed. Reminds me of Applause, but applause did better (14 weeks in the top10 i think?). I'm sure katy will do better with her next single, her upcoming album sales and her upcoming tour.

 

Can you imagine the mess it'll cause in ATRL if it doesn't? Lol, but i'm sure she will be ok.
