its more like trap music was in a few years ago and much like when urban was in 2002-2005 it then transitioned into r&b pop (Justin beyonce nelly fergie gwen) another style  Of urban in a year or two it’s going to be poppier than ever. It’s the cycle.

also, we now are embracing more than Rihanna beyonce and nicki in the urban mainstream category now that cardi meg the stallion H.E.R Janelle lizzo and many more to come have broken the mold.

 

If your view was true then many would have massive careers still post 2016 where some careers still haven’t yet recovered.

Agreed  as if Lizzo being multi-talented with catchy songs isn’t enough. As you said, with more black girls having mainstream moments than any other time this decade... I would easily believe that reasoning over some damn Trump

Yeah it’s cyclical.

 

i get it if political statements were hogging the airwaves and everyone jumped on the bandwagon but pretty much most people that dared to include it in their music suffered brandwise (Katy, ti, snoop etc).

 

The cycle is: in the early 90s 93-95 hip hop was at its best then 94-97 had R&b at its best. Then 2002-2005 was hip hop at its most sell out ring tones party music followed by 2006-2007 r&b pop era.

 

it starts off with hip hop then transitions into r&b urban and then goes back to pop.

 

except this time “pop” pop might be done because there are few superstars.

 

i truly hope lizzo lil nas even shallow makes it so that the 2020s is the era of genre fusion (rock/country hip hop/r&b etc) as the new pop.

Not only of the year. The most forgettable #1 of the decade IMO.

 

I didn't mind him using the cheap tactics with Sicko Mode because that one really deserved at least a week at #1 considering how huge and memorable it was.

I think it will pretty easily get there. Truth Hurts is still getting majority of the radio attention and didn't have the same crossover appeal as GAH (imo). I could imagine Hot AC, Pop, Rhythm and maybe even Urban giving it a lot of love once TH is done.
