97-1 is hard to beat, although BB's decision to use airplay Monday to Sunday while using sales & streaming Thursday causes a lot of big hits to "bubble under" these days. I'm actually not sure whether to consider entering the Hot 100 #1 after charting in bubbling under the week is really a debut or just an enormous jump. BB said this was done to give SS time to tabulate their totals and make edits if needed, while airplay reports are ready immediately.

Yeah. That's also certainly contributing to her decision. I remember Sam Hunt released on a Wednesday, apparently because the Zac Brown Band was releasing that Friday. ZBB still failed to close the gap though, even at the beginning, despite being the more veteran artist out of the pair. But ZBB started with a more traditional song this time, which usually doesn't perform as well on sales and streaming (and yes, I know there are exceptions).

I don't know, usually they plan the radio deals weeks in advance and the whole rollout of the single, maybe they found out about Ed's release date after they had planned all those stuff.
