Taylor Swift - 'The Life of a Showgirl: The Encore'
- Taylor Swift - 'The Life of a Showgirl: The Encore'
I'm so confused… Why would she do this? Who asked for this? Why put emphasis on the most critically panned album of her career rather than release the tracks as a seperate EP? So many questions… It's almost a same kind of situation if Katy Perry would choose to reissue 143 now.- Is Taylor about to enter her 'Witness'-era?
- Taylor Swift - "Patient Zero"
The covers look AI generated, especially the acoustic one- Carly Rae Jepsen - 'Day and Night'
Diver and Hold Me to the Light just hit me This album just keeps and keeps on giving.- Carly Rae Jepsen - 'Day and Night'
Burning Heart- Should Katy release a trilogy of albums?
nobody would care- Icona Pop - 'Ritual'
This grew on me a lot! Never Over and Foreverness are bops!- Ellie Goulding - 'I Know Too Much'
Jealousy is the standout here- Will Taylor get her fifth Grammys AOTY win with Life of a Showgirl?
- Katy Perry charts three songs on Global Spotify simultaneously. Your favorite?
- Can old Katy keep saving new Katy?
Katy's back catalogue has basically become her most reliable way of getting back into the conversation. A random resurgence of The One That Got Away or Harleys in Hawaii can remind people that Katy Perry used to be a huge pop star, without requiring her to release anything new. But how long can that realistically work? At some point you've already gone through the obvious choices… and then what? Most of the catalogue after Prism isn't exactly overflowing with songs the GP is desperately waiting to rediscover. There are exceptions, but we're eventually getting into that Witness, Smile and 143 territory, and I'm not sure there's much left there that the GP is actually nostalgic for. So can nostalgia actually keep Katy's career afloat indefinitely, or is there a point where even the back catalogue runs out of lifelines? How many more times can old Katy keep saving new Katy?- Multiple 'LIFETIMES Tour - Live From Paris' screenings cancelled; why?
- Carly Rae Jepsen - "Motivation"
The chorus is… well a bit annoying. My least favourite of the songs released so far.- Is Taylor about to enter her 'Witness'-era?
The Eras Tour was basically Taylor's Teenage Dream: untouchable and almost impossible to imagine ending. Then Showgirl arrives… still doing huge numbers, but with a much weaker critical response and a fandom that suddenly seems a lot more sceptical of Taylor's work. Even the wedding has added to the more critical conversation around her image and celebrity status. Prism wasn't a flop either. It was a commercially succesful album that came immediately before Katy's narrative completely changed. So is Showgirl Taylor's Prism in a way? Could we be one underwhelming era away from the swifties getting their very own Witness?- Why did Katy's rebranding/reheating nachos fail?
I think her image is just tarnished beyond repair. Going into the 143 era, she was carrying the heavy weight of "flop baggage" from Witness and Smile. The GP gave her multiple chances, but they all led to disappointment. The GP doesn't see her as a serious artist. Collaborating with Dr. Luke was the final nail in the coffin.- What was Katy's biggest mistake?
Was it trying to escape Teenage Dream with Witness, only to spend the next decade trying to get back to it? Was it failing to capitalize on Never Really Over? Going full clown with Smile? Becoming more famous as an American Idol judge than as a recording artist? Or was the Peacock chanteuse really convinced that reuniting with Dr. Luke for 143 was the move? Considering her decade-long decline, which mistake actually did the most damage?- Has any pop star ever bounced back from a trajectory like this?
