I like to keep vocals and instrumentals separated. Might help to separate by era, too.

Yeah, I tend to do the same. I usually keep my vocal jazz playlists male-only and female-only too, unless there's vocal duets, but that's just personal preference I guess.

great idea bc im tryna make a 50-song playlist. my love for jazz started wit the instrumentals. so smooth jazz, bebop, noir, and bossa nova became instant favs. then back when i used to play piano, i fell in love wit sinatra, nina simone, chet, miles, etc.

side note: im still obsessed wit that love jones soundtrack. esp maxwell mellosmoothe.

Yeah, when I started piano lessons, I was almost exclusively listening to jazz (or Ray Charles), with Thelonious Monk and Nat King Cole being my idols. I stopped playing over 10 years ago, though. I came out of retirement to do a tribute to Sarah Vaughan in the city; now I'm making original pieces.

We used to get soundtracks fr. Love Jones understood the assignment! The Jazz and Soul vibes is unmatched.

I know Peggy was real scared when this dropped

i have to be honest, i havent listened to too much jazz outside of Liza's Trad. Pop records these days
