Where did the "learn to code" people go?

breathes a sigh of relief in health care industry

(I do know also in my profession there will be changes because of AI but at least, unlike in the corporate world, in Germany it will be highly regulated, potentially over regulated even lol... plus, I simply cannot be fully replaced, only "enhanced" or whatever which maybe might actually be pretty cool if I no longer have to do sooooo much documentation and beaurocracy myself)

(I'm not even a nurse but it seemed fitting lol)

Not really. People who are graduating with an IT major in 2026 are struggling hard to find entry level jobs. Especially the major of Computer Science. If you're a medior or senior in an organization t

Girl, people in IT are still getting paid big money. The difference now is that they're not coding. They're reviewing AI Code.

There were threads here in the past where other devs talked about how they leverage AI. Coding is one of those practices that uses AI as a tool to boost productivity. While AI is leveraged, you still need to know what it is you are doing - and can code the same things yourself without AI.

The thing with coding in particular is, you need to go in a field that needs a developer. Don't get into the tech industry in the tech field. Every major industry needs someone who codes something for them in some way. I work as a web dev as the only person in the field at my company, which is in the mortgage sector.

Even if this was true, it's way more likely for a computer science major to be hired after college than any other major out there today. Even more than doctors.

Computer science graduates struggle to secure their first...

Companies are using AI to do basic coding tasks instead of hiring junior staff.

it is not 2019 anymore

That sounds more like a spiteful take than a real one. Unless you mean to say all forms of IT will become 100% AI driven and operated human workforce is still required.

The economy is the pits for everyone and AI is replacing/transforming jobs in every sector, not just Tech.

Gen Z is mad because they have to work and compete harder than in the 2010s and Tech is no longer the "easy predictable path" it once was.

Don't worry. They'll be back as soon as people realize that the vast majority of AI codebases actually require more work in debugging and maintenance than if an actual human had written the thing in the first place and that generative AI isn't the secret silver bullet to destroy human labor that the doomsday death cultist CEOs want you to think it is.

With the way AI seemingly came out of nowhere, a number of people were blindsided. Jobs will always be there, but the demand will be exceptionally low due to AI's power. It's not a flawless system but, with the way it's learning, growing and expanding, it could be relatively soon; it's always being tweaked and fed information.

IT industry is devoid of humanity. We all see the damage from facebook, google, amazon and now chatgpt to the society

People in IT are chasing high salary without any regard for moral. I left my SE job and will never go back
