Back and forth across her living room, phone in hand, screen lighting up her face like it was about to deliver divine intervention.

"Why wasn't it me?" she whispered. Then louder: "WHY wasn't it me?"

On the table: a half-drunk green juice, three different wigs, and a framed photo from 2013, the year she still mentally lived in. Prism era. Roar at #1. Dark Horse domination. The year she decided Madonna had spiritually chosen her.

Her assistant hovered nervously.

"Should I… call her again?"

"I'm calling her," Katy snapped, already redialing. "This is a misunderstanding."

Across the world, Madonna's phone lit up. Again.

She stared at it, unimpressed.

"Katy Perry," she read aloud, then took a slow sip of tea like she was in a Vogue interview from 1998.

"Didn't we… already do this?" she muttered.

Her manager sighed. "You ignored the last four calls."

Madonna picked up. Silence. Then…

"Katy."

"Katy PERRY," Katy corrected instantly, like it was still 2012 and branding mattered.

A pause.

"…Yes."

Katy inhaled dramatically. "I just wanted to clear something up. I heard… Sabrina is on 'Bring Your Love'…"

"Yes," Madonna said, calm, unbothered. "She recorded it. It's done."

Katy blinked. "Right. But… why wasn't I asked?"

Another pause. Longer this time.

Madonna leaned back. "You were… not considered."

That sentence hit like a delayed earthquake.

Katy laughed. Too loudly. "That's funny. Because I distinctly remember in 2013…"

"Oh God," Madonna whispered.

"…you said you saw yourself in me."

"I said," Madonna interrupted, "that you had a strong moment."

"A moment?" Katy repeated, voice tightening.

"So you called Gaga first?" she asked, voice trembling.

Madonna didn't even hesitate. "Yes. She couldn't do it. Booked and busy."

"And then… Sabrina?"

"Yes."

"And then… not me?"

Madonna sighed, the sigh of someone who has survived every pop war since vinyl.

"Katy… trends move. Energy shifts. You have to evolve."

"I did evolve," Katy insisted. "I cut my hair!"

"That was 2017," Madonna replied flatly.

Silence.

Katy looked at her reflection in the dark phone screen. For a second, she saw it: the glitter, the whipped cream bra, the roar.

Then it flickered.

"Can I send you something?" Katy asked suddenly.

Madonna hesitated. "What is it?"

"A concept. For a remix. 'Bring Your Love (Teenage Dream Version)'."

"No."

Click.

The call ended.
