Audiophiles and AM users get in. This thread can be used for general discussion too but I do have a main issue - many of my local files will skip after the song plays half or 2 thirds of the way through. Does this happen to anyone else and do you know how to fix it?

 

I'd leave AM for another app if I could but to my knowledge, no other app can host local files in the cloud in combination with their streaming catalogue. It sucks that local files often get overridden with new artworks and are slow to load. Do yall have a different strategy for playing unreleased music on mobile?

I usually just drag and drop onto the Apple Music Mac app, file, library, update and whatever metadata I've set carries over. Sounds like you should try signing out of iCloud or something, sounds corrupt

If you create an AAC copy of it, it should fix the issue. Click I think "music" and the top after you have it selected and then create AAC copy

I think there's a setting to turn off the updated album artwork for local files, I never had my files changed/skipped before

ok so far I have deleted AM on mobile, signed out of the account on mac, signed back in (after it rejected my password ). i have created AAC copy for one song and it seems to have worked. on mobile no issues, but on mac it is playing the full track, then playing a second of the next song, pausing to load the song then starting again. I'm going to target that issue next. i don't think that happens when you play local files back to back but it's preloading a streaming song. i will mess with more settings.

i've never had the update artwork setting on! i think it might stop changing the art if I wipe everything and put them back in with the AAC conversion. some albums still show the default one before u press play on a song but i'm not as bothered by that.

omg I've been having this issues for years now. But only with .mp3 tracks I've gotten off of websites. Never have any issues with any .m4a tracks. I don't have Apple Music though, I've always used Spotify out of fear of AM ******* up my local library.

omg is THAT why that happens?? i always assumed it was a memory thing bc my phone often is short on space. it pisses me tf off too bc ill be getting my LIFE singing the bridge to a song, and then it fawking SKIPS to the next song i be ready to kill someone!!

 

ive also had a lot of issues w my Apple Music library that were partially brought on by me that are also incredibly frustrating

so for a long while, i had my local files on my laptop, but my stuff would primarily be added via the apple music app on my iphone. on my laptop, i had one of the older versions of iTunes installed, the one from like 2012-2014 iirc that basically changed the ui based on the album cover palette? i deliberately installed that version bc i liked that feature!! but i caved to peer pressure and eventually downloaded the most recent itunes/apple music desktop app bc everyone who i told this to kinda laughed at it  but that caused a WHOLE bunch of issues. several songs from my local library couldn't merge w the app added versions bc they had diff titles in some way, meaning i now have duplicates. some songs randomly got their info changed to be part of diff compilations, so i have had to fix those. some songs/albums got entirely deleted, and some show up on my apple music but in a glitched form, where i can't open them  and i have no idea how to mend most of these 😭

omg i forgot about that version, it was so good!

 

oh girl. it sounds like u gotta scrap everything and start afresh  so u have AM now right? go in settings/preferences and basically uncheck every box. also it depends when u last updated because my current updated app behaves differently to the one I had last year. u still have the original files right? if there's duplicates from the AM streaming catalogue, then u can delete them individually. i rarely save full albums anymore to stop things getting too messy, unless i know it's one that i'll never be tweaking. it's easy enough to search the artist and play online unless u are someone that has music playing 24/7.

Idk lol I have literally thousands of unreleased songs with album artwork and everything but never had a single issue except it has adding weird artwork sometimes 

Create a new user account on your Mac, login to the Music app there, and try it. If it works fine, the app under your user is corrupted. 
 

Also try changing the audio quality. This will force the app to reload the music files. See if it still skips. 

Apple needs to step their **** up cause ironically their music app has some of the WORST issues that have not been fixed AND features that SHOULD ALREADY BE AVAILABLE

Mine has been randomly skipping to the next song before the song ends recently, but not just local files, it's all songs on there. I think it is because my phone is out of storage though and that is probably why it is glitching

 

Other than that I've had no issues with local files and have a bunch of unreleased bops on my playlists
