Was t.A.T.u.'s music underrated?

Featured Replies

Was it? They gave us amazing singles from amazing albums. Their music has not aged a day.

These two albums alone end careers:

I feel pretty weird about them being Russian and what their country has done tbh.

Underrated? They were pretty huge back in the day, deservedly so.

I mean, they were, they had nice singles, etc + the controversies helped. But I don't feel like their albums got the praise or recognition they deserved. They're barely on any lists from best albums from those years, etc.

Well, unfortunately, all the 'best album lists' are heavily Western-oriented (Western Europe, USA, Canada, UK), I think a more proper title should be "Best Western albums" etc.

Sacrifice and Perfect Enemy are excellent tracks

It really was. I still have their fly on the wall song on my playlist :jonny6:

Truly my fave girl duo after the veronicas

They were not underrated, as they were actually massive. And deservedly so!

Yes and this is one of the best songs ever made.

t.A.T.u. were absolutely incredible and had SO much solid music my god. 200km/h in the Wrong Lane was my first album and quite frankly my first gay text and it was SO formative. Don't care what was real or not, it meant everything to me and it demonstrated the power of pop music - it was never low-brow, it articulated incredibly complex ideas about love and sexuality.

I don't care what anyone says, their version of "How Soon Is Now?" is superior to the original

And yes, I think their music was and still is underrated

If Canada is to America what Ukraine is to Russia, then I can forgive America's treatment of Canadians.

They are absolute icons, I see they're doing some gigs together so I hope something exciting eventually happens for them as a duo. A new album would be a dream but I don't know if Yulia's vocals would deliver.

Their first album was wayyyy ahead for its time. The first time I heard the opening notes of All The Things She Said was so magical. My wig flew into orbit during the breakdown after the first chorus :jonny5: The production of Show Me Love was also soooo different. Malchik Gay was so relatable at the time.

I had never heard anything like their music up until that point in my life. I discovered the Russian language upon hearing their original versions too. Good times!!!

Their songs are like ear worms and just get stuck in your head. Whenever I think of Dangerous & Moving, I hear "I complicated our lives by falling in love with him."

Their harmonies are like a Russian version of M2M — I think another reason why I fell in love with them so fast. Their vocal blending was so beautiful.
