Have you tried melatonin?

Featured Replies

I got it at the store today. I was so excited to try it. When I got in the car, I read the label and it said to not take more than 2 and to take it 30 minutes before bed. So I took 2 and drove home. I was excited when I started getting drowzy... but then an hour later I woke up!!! Is there something I was supposed to do to help get it to work? I feel like I wasted money!!!! It must be a me problem since so many people I know swear by it??? What have your experiences with melatonin been?

Iirc it's not to keep you asleep but it signals you to fall asleep. It happens to me too, but i also take it mostly to fall asleep

It said to take it 30 minutes before you go to bed, so I did.

Melatonin is not an immediate sedative.. It doesn't "knock you out" right awaw, it just helps regulate sleep timing.

If your sleep rhythm was very disrupted, it's normal that it doesn't work right away on the first day, give it some time

Be careful not to abuse it, in the long term, it caused me psychological dependence, I got used to the idea that I couldn't sleep without it.

I will try it again tomorrow during the time I would normally go to bed. I really thought it would work tonight though. I did not take any naps today and I did not get any energy drinks on my way to workout and I was exhausted from the workout! Seemed like a sure fire success.

Same thing for me.  It helps me fall asleep but doesn't help me stay asleep. And it only works if I am already on a decent sleep schedule and generally in a calm state of mind.  If I was already stressed out about something, Melatonin ain't gon do shít. In the end, my anxiety always wins.  At that point I'd need a sedative. :busted:

I believe you shouldn't take supplements like these just before driving

Yes, and it's not for me. Whether it works or not is irrelevant for me because it makes my vertigo symptoms worse and I feel dizzy the next day.

That being said, I'd recommend you take it for a longer period before deciding if it works for you or not. Nothing you take will work miracles the first day, lol.

Try to go to bed at the same time every night, having a routine is essential.. and avoid sugar/coffee in the evening before sleeping. You'll see that you'll sleep better

I tried them, and they didn't do anything for me. I never wanted to become reliant on any kind of supplemental/medicinal sleep aid, so I'm actually happy it seemed to not work for me. What actually helped me is getting a weighted blanket. That's when I started getting much deeper and high quality sleep.

The last thing i need assistance in is to fall asleep

yes it works fine but only the 5mg. the 10mg gives me a hangover in the morning :rip:

and yeah it only helps you go to sleep. it doesn't help you stay asleep

for me it's actually lately been working better than the med my psychiatrist prescribes me for sleep (clonidine)

I'll take both and they'll both help but it's very clear to me which feels like which. clonidine is always a bit lighter and floatier when i've taken it on its own, whereas melatonin gives you a solid crash feeling. I almost feel like the clonidine is only helping me stay asleep atp and the melatonin gummies I take are actually the heavy lifters and maybe always have been :giraffe: I once took a wyld cbd melatonin gummy that gave me some of the most restful sleep of my life, but nowadays the gummies I take are these

oh and a small reminder as to what really has been f*cking my insomnia up further: I work overnights. 5x a week, 11 pm - 7 am shifts

Ok Sis let me give you the real tea

The best use for it is to regulate your schedule when traveling or getting back or getting on a routine

However

It doesnt work tight away usually takes 1-2 nights to kick off properly. Its not a sleeping medicine its more of a suplement

Also even 5mg might be a lot you can do 1-2-3 mg to get effects. anything over 5 is dangeous and your body may not process it

And when you take it makes you tired all the time even though you slept 10 hours and thats why i dont take it

yes and it works for me

i don't take it everyday though

It works for me.

I take two, but I take them early like 7pm if I'm sleeping at 11pm. By the time I am drowsy, I have make myself completely ready for bed, lights off and everything, and then I go to sleep. If I take them, but semi-sleep and then wake up, it's not working.

If I cant sleep ill pop it but very drowsy and groggy kind of sleep.
