Siblings of already-successful artists are basically cursed from the start, and they rarely (if ever) become as successful as their sibling.  You can see it with Ashlee Simpson, Solange, Noah Cyrus, Jamie Lynn Spears, etc.  It is very rare for "the other sibling" to surpass the OG sibling's success.

Ashlee was arguably bigger than Jessica at one point. Jessica never had a hit as massive as "Pieces of Me", and her highest-selling album matches Ashlee's highest in sales. Sorry, just had to throw that in, but now that we're on the topic…

 

The reason why Ashlee did not suffer the "younger sibling curse" was because her brand and musical identity was the total polar opposite of her already famous sister's. Ashlee was the edgy, emo-lite, black-haired pop/rocker who sang about breakups and angst, while Jessica was the all-American blonde, cutesy pop sexpot type. You wouldn't have ever known they were related had they went by stage names.

 

So with that being said, the younger sibling of an already famous person usually has a similar aura, and so it only ramps up the comparisons. In the case of Noah Cyrus, she vocally sounds a lot like Miley circa the Disney channel days, and she never developed a consistent identity as an individual artist. Her first song, which was her most successful to date, was an industrial alt-pop song produced by Labrinth, her second single "Stay Together" was a generic pop song that sounded nothing like the previous single, then she went back to the industrial sound with "Again feat. XXXtentacion", then came out with "July" and an EP about a year after that which was folk/country and again, completely different from her previous singles.

 

Her label was clearly just throwing whatever at the wall to see what stuck, but the more they did that, the less interest general listeners had until the minor hype for Noah all but fizzled out.

July was her peak and rightfully so no shade. Her music isn't exciting enough. She's nit exciting enough. She needs a better team and a better approach idk how to explain it. She's just there.

I don't think anything went really 'wrong'. She never came across as a popstar and for the music she eventually made. It seems she aimed for a niche anyways. 

 

If she would focus on touring/festivals, zi think she could built a cute following.
