I've been a listener for years but this album ain't it. (Especially after a six-year hiatus)

I mean, the production is clearly the star of the show, but I'm a bit conflicted about the vocals throughout the record. I love his voice, but whenever he starts exaggerating, I can't help but cringe.

Top Three:

• KID AGAIN

• DON'T SHOOT

• MODERN TIMES (feat. Jon Batiste)

I don't think most of ATRL / pop fans who were following him from The Human Condition and Glory Sound Prep will be here for this album. This is a sharp left turn from the booming pop songs of previous eras and is entrenched more in underground lo-fi hip hop to me, even beyond some of his earlier albums. Much less pop formula and influence overall, also. I don't think it will be received well here and in other pop centric forums.

Still listening through the album and don't think poorly of it, just an observation.

I'm sorry but I need to check this man's politics before I even allow myself to like the few decent songs I've heard on my first listen. The whole "man of god" alpha father, man and wife energy is throwing me off SO bad he's giving MAGA so bad :clack: is he even accepting of the gays? He's giving macho Italian American from Long Island that beats up gays for fun in this album idk :suburban:

As a big fan of his since 2014, who saw him in concert and bought his albums and loved everything from The Separation through to Glory Sound Prep, I agree.  I don't like this album.  It's too downtempo, and frankly, boring for me.  I also can't stand the mumble-singing thing he's doing on a lot of these songs, like Khalid and Post Malone.  I thought we had left that trend behind.

However, none of this is to say it's a bad album.  I'm happy he's making the music he wants to make.  It's just not for me this time.

He's apparently praised Andrew Tate as well… yeah this album is not for me

https://www.reddit.com/r/JonBellion/s/oH9yLGNZJX

I went and found the exact quote because this is horrifying to me.  Supporting Tate is worse than being MAGA.  Even most of the MAGA people I know think that Tate is a freak and a rapist who should be in jail.

Anyway, Jon's quote was:

Quote

l'm like, he's a smart guy, like I'm watching him in general throughout life and this whole unfolding of whatever it is, and I'm like that's a really smart dude.

Pretty vague, but undeniably awful.  If he had said this about Joe Rogan, I could roll my eyes and move on, but Andrew Tate?  Vile.

I know Jon doesn't care about fame and barely uses social media so he's definitely not going to say anything about this, so we'll probably never have more of an answer.  But this is incredibly disappointing.
