I really do wonder though if the promo shots where she's on top of a pool table and by a fireplace are from an actual music video or just promo shots. 

 

A second music video that's actually more cinematic would be a gag, especially if she drops it while the song is taking off on radio. That would be the smartest marketing strategy she's done in a while.  It would be a cute little boost.

couldnt comment before cuz atrl was down, i was kinda let down by the song, because there was nothing going on production wise or vocally wise. it sounded like first take, no adlibs no richness, producer and writer just gave up or like they had 5 min to make the song. kinda lazy. I like the initial beat and ciaras vocals, but it's like 3/5, and I think her aim was 5/5. i cant believe producer or whoever decided on the same beat the whole time, like its 2025, even amateurs at home know how to switch a beat. this producer ONLY slowed it down for mili sec by the last chorus drop, seriously? can someone do remix or something.

what made promise and ride great (that she claims its their sister) was production. even promise recorded at cave time had additional vocals and adlibs. what made her not give ecstasy the same treatment? 

 

about the video, i know a lot of people stan, to me it seemed one take too. she is gorgeous obviously but its boring + no color. and why that scene on the pool table if we not getting it? im so confused. 

 

I don't wanna sound like a complainer because we give her a hard time all the time, but if anyone else made this, the reaction would be the same, or there would be no reaction because if a new artist did it, it would make no noise.

We have to understand where Ciara is and has been as an artist the past 10 years. So I disagree with all of this. Also, this is what some people felt about Body Party but then it grew on people and I feel this is what's gonna happen with people if the song picks up. Give it time. Maybe a live performance will give you a new feel to this song. 

 

Production :   (Rating: 5/5)

 

I love the production because while its modern and simple it provides this throwback feel. The production has hints of quiet storm and Sade. The beat could be on Sade's Love Deluxe. I love that. The song at is core is slow paced. However, there's minimalistic gems you can hear in the production that the more you listen to the more apparent they sound. There's also a good switch up with the melody during the "I got good punani" section that I think provides a good pay off for the slow start of the song. It kind of picks up in that section and it's got some bite to it. Considering how PG her image has been watered down to the past few years, this section is giving "yasss ***** you better remind them how nasty you can be". I love that. The soccer mom image is out the window with this part. Something we've been perched for.  I know Theron can produce good songs but he's always given Ciara the leftovers. This one does not feel like that. 

 

Vocals:  (Rating: 3.5/5) 

 

Her vocals sound sweet and while they could of used her lower register a bit more and maybe do a little more stacking to her voice to provide more hardness to her voice, I think Ciara herself wants to sound as authentic as possible. I think the pay off is great when she performs live because then she can elevate her vocals when it comes to the live performance vs having this unrealistic layered vocal production that Ciara may not be able to emulate live. We all know Ciara is not a powerhouse so to have these expectations for her vocals seems out of touch to me sorry, not trying to come at you too hard or anything. I think the vocals are just ok and that is ok. I rather her play it safe in this department.

I honestly love the lyrics. It's giving R&B. It's giving Ciara. It's giving grown woman singing unapologetically. Uncensored. The lyrics flow like water as the song pushes along. The banana lyric surprisingly fits and it's a "ooop did she just really say that" in the best way possible. Kinda gives "Ride" vibes because at the time no one was making a song about riding dick lmao but anywho, I just love that the lyrics are quirky but at the core are sexy and put you in the mood. Dinner on my body, hotter than Hibachi!! BITCHHHHHH! lmaooo yasss talk yo ****!

Ok, I listen to a lot of Sade, in fact she was "basis" of my forming taste phase and even Sade on Love Deluxe has "adlibs" and production surprises on songs. Sade's attraction is honestly real lyrics, I dont think we can compare Ecstasy to "Papa got laid off, Mama got laid off, Billy cant get a job".

 

Closest Ciara came to "being real" was "I love myself" which is honestly one of my favorite songs of all time by her. I wish more people are aware of that jam. I agree with punani being the switch and I like it, but for me personally happens too late when I dont care anymore for the song. in my ideal world it would happen each prechorus. I dont know what to tell you about soccer mom and nasty because to me none of those are anything but offensive. women are not drawers you put them in. Yes, she can pick up her kid to school, and obvs shes having sex, but shes doing a lot more in between, soccer mom and nasty are patriarchal garbage attempts to control women (like if you are one thing, you cant be another, wtf). 

 

I don't know what the point of debate is about your opinion. You think these lyrics are awesome, to me they are meh at best and cringe at worst.So what, you can jam to it, Ill jam to something else. Sex songs can easily go cringe. I do tend to gravitate to "more serious" songs or if they fun still creative fun, so sex songs that are direct are not my go-to. for instance, direct sex songs I enjoy have such insane production you cant do anything but dance pole at home (the-dream stuff)

When it came to Sade, I was simply talking about the beat. Actually if you listen to "Cherish The Day" you can hear the simplicity and there are more simplistic beats on that album ect. I'm obviously not talking lyrical content or vocals, no shade to my fave but she could never be on that level of artistry lol  Also maybe has to do with the fact the music was made in a different time. Sade def has a live band aspect to her music production so in that case im not daring to compare Ciara to her. I'm simply just talking about the beat. It's giving quiet storm. It sounds very grown up and something that would play in an adult contemporary R&B station.  My comparison to her was meant to be very loosely. 

 

Ciara has been real many times maybe you need to do more research. Even in her recent albums which im not in favor of (in terms of the cohesiveness of those albums) she's had some "real" moments. ""Beaty Marks" (the song; has some really striking lyrics). On Jackie she has "I Got You" even though its giving lullaby I find the lyrics to be very beautiful and real. Ciara is not some poetic justice singer or is meant to be so this expectation feels off considering most of her music is dance music.  However, fans til this day hold on to the shift that Ciara gave us when she released "Promise". Which in my opinion is one of the best R&B songs of all time. YES! I said it! After coming off the Goodies tomboy chic era, to switch it up wearing black hair, more grown up woman clothes, heels  and releasing a full fledged R&B track; that was a big moment for us! Do we want an album full of "Promise" records? No but us Ciara stans were conditioned to expect that sexy Ciara to always be present in her music. We as fans have felt that's been lacking because of her Christian soccer mom lifestyle that she seems to be enjoying. While there's nothing wrong with that , that bled into the music and lyrics we had been receiving last two eras. This is the first song that feels like the "old" Ciara with the attitude of the new Ciara. I don't feel like I'm listening to soccer mom Ciara keeping up with the youngings with "Ecstasy". It feels like I'm listening to Ciara from The Evolution and that's what's important here. That sauce is back. 

 

On the subject of soccer mom and Ciara being a mom, the reality is that Ciara (THE ARTIST) is not as interesting without her signature sexy approach and persona. The general public doesn't care or want to care that Ciara is a mom as it relates to her music. It's sad and I don't wish for it to be that way but its the truth.  

 

Once again Ciara is never going to go into the serious deep poetic music space that you are seeking from her. So maybe don't set that expectation when it comes to Ciara because it was never there to begin with. No offense but listen to someone else if that's what you're expecting.

I don't think anyone is expecting 'deep, poetic music' from her—but we just don't want songs that feel juvenile or targeted toward an under-18 audience. Some of the tracks even sounded generic or overly corporate (for commercials, mall music etc)

 

If I were her A&R, I'd steer her away from the 'gym jam' lane and focus on carving out a sound rooted in sensual, love-driven records. (she would need to dump theron and get a legit songwriter tho) I'd also incorporate club-friendly tracks—not the generic 'run-it-up' type, but something with groove and bounce, maybe tapping into that Kaytranada-esque production style. What really gets me is that it feels like we're just making excuses for the fact that Ciara lacks vision and direction. Tinashe (and a bunch of other independent acts) took control after leaving her label and has been delivering. So what's Ciara's excuse now? As @KING ACE said, no one's expecting FKA Twigs-level lyricism, but at least make the music sonically interesting. The Evolution (e.g. Love You Better, Get In, Fit In, I Proceed) + Fantasy Ride sessions showed she could be experimental while still being in the R&B/Pop lane. "Ecstasy" is her best effort in years, but it still falls short. Especially when the album just expands on the CiCi EP (which, outside of "HWR," was a**). I'd take "Fantasy" with Keys N Krates over any of her recent singles.

 

I'll always root for her, but there hasn't been much to get excited about.

You said "there has to be more to the story" and I'm saying what if there isn't? What if she's satisfied with this and her previous releases? Maybe it's time we accept that. She seems to love the EP enough to expand it into a full album. I don't get the sense that anyone's pressuring her to do it.

 

Not sure why any mention of Tinashe irks you. I only brought her up as an example of someone who's thriving in her own lane and isn't chasing mainstream pop success anymore. Dismissing her critical acclaim and consistency doesn't help this discussion or Ciara.

 

There's no need for this to turn confrontational, we're in the same boat and writing essays cuz we're frustrated.

I just think she and her collaborators need to focus on looking forward instead of looking back. She's never succeeded at recapturing her old sounds because those hits were lighting in a bottle. She will never have another Goodies, 1, 2 Step, Oh, Promise, Ride, Body Party, etc. because that's not an easy thing to achieve in the first place. Those are timeless generation defining moments (idc what anyone says about it). It's like telling Katy Perry to make another Teenage Dream. 

 

She's in a place career-wise where she could go as experimental as she wanted to with no label to tell her no and yet she's playing safer than ever before. That being said, I kinda blame the public. People like to put her in a box and there is still a big 2010 stan twitter mentality surrounding her sometimes.

I've been CSquad since Goodies, so yes, I'm very familiar with her discography (I bought all her albums, even multiple times lol cause I was moving, some singles, have her merch, skincare,  bought her Nordstrom collection, and saw her live last year <3 ) I mentioned I love myself just because it's an example of her artistry and personal fave. I did love Beauty Marks, too, but I love myself better. 

 

All this is either your opinion or what you think GP wants. To me I'm attracted to Ciara because of melodies of her songs and what type of woman she is, I realized I love all her songs for some reason, so it must be something deeper than "sexy persona" or "dance persona". I really appreciated those real vulnerable moments and when she paints the picture of her life. To me she represets bravery, hard work, self love and feminism (check One Woman Army, Girls Get Your Money, Girl Gang, Set, Da Girls, Never Ever, G is For A GIRL etc). I also loved Rooted moment in her discography, it was so powerful even though Im not black I was able to connect through motherhood and the strength women posess. Ciara is consistent with the message she's sending (boss lady), and that's much more than "sexy persona".  Who doesnt find Ciara interesting one way or the other they are just not her audience and thats totally fine.

If I were her A&R, I'd steer her away from the 'gym jam' lane and focus on carving out a sound rooted in sensual, love-driven records. (she would need to dump theron and get a legit songwriter tho) I'd also incorporate club-friendly tracks—not the generic 'run-it-up' type, but something with groove and bounce, maybe tapping into that Kaytranada-esque production style. Now this is a straight lie, come on…. Her music is better than ever. 

I do agree with others the song is amazing but it's missing something. This song really lacks the climax & her tone could change a few times through throughout the song. 
 

And as much as I love the video, it is very cheap and boring. 

 

She could have came so much harder with this track but it is indeed a step in the right direction.

Ideally she'd send this to Urban and let it do its thing.

 

Then release Single #2 (Song with Latto/Jazze Pha) and push that - Just to slowly rebrand.

She's never been big with streaming without the label push. That's the consequences of going independent. She has to rely on radio and music video streams.
