Literally their worst comeback and at the time I quite literally pretended it didn't happen. If aespa wants to do regular pop without the hyperpop or fantasy elements, at least pull more interesting references that haven't been beat to death recently in kpop like they did with Spicy and Better Things. Drama offered nothing that the 4000 other girl crush comebacks that year didn't, sorry.  

 

Not to mention that that song was paired with some of the worst b-sides I have ever seen from a top kpop group, Winter basically apologized on Bubble for some of those songs when they debuted with the hyperline tour, so it was shocking when SM released them anyway and not the excellent solos. There was a reason My World was downgraded from an album to a mini in the first place, and their (at that time) new A&R should have respected the decisions of their much more successful predecessors. Drama was a sloppy cash grab that gave them a quick domestic hit but undid a lot of good will aespa earned from casual fans who saw them as less generic than normal kpop groups.

which is a great thing for kpop. blackpink got me into the genre and i gotta say i appreciate the traditional old school form of pushing and promoting the artist and music. the us popstars are so lazy and low budget and it aint it.

okay we'll just agree to disagree cause i'm not arguing with you about this. i went to their concert and drama was easily the unanimous highlight. the irony that you say to pull more interesting ereferences when most people were dragging spicy and better things for being basic lol also you just canceled out your own argument because drama wasnt even on my world. 

While I'm doing coke rants about aespa's a&r: the fact that Armageddon was supposed to be the big push instead of Supernova, as well as the fact that Whiplash was originally going to be in Drama's release slot has me very worried for aespa and all other artists at their pd center(they share a center with Boa and SNSD). Their a&r have no idea what a smash hit looks like and keep seemingly stumbling into them on accident. The constant stories about the members themselves having to push for their best songs to even be released is worrisome because we know at the end of the day with SM that senior idols have more input than senior idols at the average agency, but unlike other idols with some kind of creative input, SM frequently chooses to ignore the talent and go in the opposite direction anyway. Boa's recent comebacks have been fumbled as well and Taeyeon's releases have declined in quality imo. I was all for giving the new structuring of SM a chance but it's a massive chop.

The B-sides from Drama other than trick or trick were my world scraps, which Winter apologized for. My World + Drama(minus the songs drama and trick or trick) + Better Things were the prospective tracks for the original version of aespa's first album as far as I know. Spicy had been in the SM vault since before aespa even debuted. I know my aespa tea.
