Former popstar and occasional actress Lady Gaga has been living out of the limelight (except to sell makeup) but The Fame continues to cement itself as a fresh, highly consumed pop classic. Back in 2020 this album was constantly winning polls for being ‘the most dated’. According to ATRL. Surprised?

It did sound dated in 2011 though, all the way through 2014

It did sound dated for a while. I couldn't imagine myself listening to it in like 2016. We were too close to it. Then I heard it again more recently and it was a breath of fresh air. This happens with pop music. In the mid 80s to mid 90s people cringed at the sound of ABBA.

everyone knows the singles aged well but the album tracks sound horrendously bad in 2024

BTW had multiple hits. Some of the album tracks are outstreaming #1's from that year. But after that, the multiple hits per album dried up. I guess ASIB had two.

PF, what a classic

It is not forgotten.  Just Dance, Poker Face, Paparazzi, Bad Romance and Alejandro are five of the best pop songs ever.  I miss this era of Gaga.  She was great from 2008-2010.  Fame changed her.

Multiple hits?  What are the multiple hits exactly?  Born This away (song) was a hit, but it benefited from (overblown) hype and Madonna’s promoting it. Judas flopped. The Edge of Glory a minor hit.  Marry The Night flopped.  You and I a minor hit.  It is clear from how the Born This Way era performed that the public said: “Enough is enough.”  It is sad because The Fame was a breath of fresh air.  However, it takes some nerve to mess with Madonna and think you’d walk away with your career intact.

Yes it did. The industry is not for everyone. Some like Madonna, Taylor and Beyonce thrive on it being their lives. Others like Gaga, Britney, Katy and Rihanna struggle with it, or with it being their whole life.

The issue with Gaga is that she got too much, too fast, too soon.  At age 23, she had achieved pop icon status.  Madonna had to put in years of hard work before her songs even hit steady rotation on radio and her videos were a feature on MTV.  Madonna was in her late 20s during the Like a Virgin era.  To survive in the music industry you have to be shrewd but also mature.  Gaga achieved extraordinary success but failed to maintain it.  She turned it around for herself but it took 5 years of pretty heavy PR and image rehabilitation.  Hopefully she can have another album as good as The Fame but if Chromatica is anything to go by, it’s unlikely.

2008 was the last time Madonna was relevant, and The Fame, the topic of this thread was released that year and thus began Gaga's legendary career, while Madonna's ended so I do understand your anger
