I was in public school downloading songs off Limewire. Before the album was even released, most of it leaked.

How many demos leaked that day? 20? Kiss You All Over, State Of Grace, Luv The Hurt Away, Sugarfall oh jesus she needs to release them all.

I didn't discover Blackout till after Circus had come out. I was a brand new Britney fan and didn't realize Gimme More had a whole parent album. Imagine my excitement when I discovered that it did when browsing CDs one day. My first listen was on the CD. Quickly became my very favorite and enjoyed lots of plays.

Me and my best friend’s boyfriend dropped her off at UC Santa Barbara and we drove back to LA that night and decided to just hang out so we were out all night and at 7am I made him stop at Target so I could buy it. We ended up driving around listening to it all day.

My high school used Toy Soldier as their tryout song right when the album came out and that altered my brain chemistry 

I don’t remember the first full listen but I do remember that at the time (actually it must have been a couple years after 2007), I was very committed with organizing my iTunes gallery so wanted every song to have its full info and be part of its parent album instead of “single,” and I hated to have them alone (or for an album to have one song) so I’d check these albums and include/download the songs I like. I remember listening to Toy Soldier and Heaven On Earth and thinking they were “weird” songs. I was so young lmao, with time I obviously realized the whole album was a MASTERPIECE!

 

Gimme More was life changing from the very start tho. And I’d get very excited when they played Break the Ice on the radio.

I need someone to leak the full version of Rebellion, ASAP.

First listened (and bought) in December 2007 after I‘d seen my sister listen the hell out of Gimme More. Didn‘t love the album at first but when it hit it HIT. The second time I fully immersed myself in it was like in 2009.

I still remember when I first bought it and listened to it, it was a few months after Circus had come out. Hot as Ice was my instant favorite.

I can't remember if I heard POM, Gimme More, or BTI first but I was HOOKED ON (Sugarfall). 

honestly though how did you guys who discovered the album later avoid gimme more? it was polarising and everyone was talking about the video, the dodgy vma performance, her making music so fresh after the head shaving incident

 

i vividly remember watching vma’s as a kid and my cousins/aunts/my mother clowning me being like “this is your girl??”

 

i was embarrassed bc they were coming for me but even as a child i knew how wrong they were for making fun of someone who was clearing going through an extended breakdown, thank god for forums like SIN where i uncovered info about the myah marie/conservatorship of it all very early on.

The fraternities at UNH near where I briefly lived (family worked for them) blasted Gimme More for weeks out of their cars.

 

Like…actually lost their **** whenever it came on.

 

No one cared about the VMA’s or her meltdown.

 

I remember that, viscerally. Not so much the rest of the era.

 

Nothing hit as hard subsequently, including Womanizer, which felt…safe, and controlled.

i’m european and maybe she wasn’t as beloved here but was just as big, and EVERYONE i knew focused on her breakdown and how “crazy” she was - jokes were coming left right and centre even as gimme more smashed. i was a kid and knew how icky it felt given the fact she was clearly in a crisis 

 

i remember people laughing at her  during that time, while i’m looking at that pic of her being sectioned on the cover of one of my aunts trashy magazines like “wtf is wrong with you all”. it was probably the first time in my life i, by myself, was conscience of mental health and its fragility.

 

sorry to digress and focus on this stuff, but she was such a huge part of my youth and music aside i learned a lot about life from studying hers as it unfolded

nnn same sis. ITZ is the first Britney album I bought when I was 8. I was literally scandalized when I got older and realized TOMH was about masturbation. My mom has hated Britney all my life and tbh I can’t be surprised when I was listening to songs like that and BOM at such a young age 

 

Change just made me laugh because it’s a very “safe” album. Compared to Blackout it’s like night and day. Definitely one of my least favorite Sugababes albums.
