I was told Billie is the bigger artist. Why the sophomore effort of Billie failed to debut with more sales than Olivia?

 

HTE debut: 238K

GUTS debut: 302K

Aren't you always saying big debuts aren't that impressive and it's all about longevity?

• Billie waited longer between albums
• Olivia still has her kiddy pop rock image which is on-trend right now
• Little to no departure from her debut sound

All around: more safe. Billie is still bigger and better.

Because billie's rollout was a mess, too many singles and the very long wait killed the hype.  Also billie's album is less commercial and too slow to get any hits except happier than ever which was a success

Hopefully Dua Lipa 3 can be in the same league because both those debuts are absolutely massive

Why they didn’t launch the album with the title track as the lead (as well as the 4-5 pre album singles) will always be baffling. 

Isn't Happier Than Ever still charting for it's 110th week or something? It never left the chart. That's very impressive and I can only hope Guts serves the same longevity

And both of them will outdebut Dua Lipa's next album 

better music

I think they wanted to keep the "strongest" song for the album release and that is understadable, but there's no way the rollout for the album should have been that long. A clean 3 months rollout with 2 singles would have been so better

On trend? Olivia started the trend & frankly she’s the only one succeeding with it

Hopefully they’ve learned and don’t dilute the next album rollout with 5 pre-album singles. Just 2 like you said makes much more sense. 

Because Olivia is the MPG of gen z while the other is a fad of early 2019

1.) They both waited 2 years though?

2.) HTE’s biggest hit, the title track, literally is the same kiddy type pop rock song

3.) HTE wasn’t even that big of a change sound wise. 

Olivia’s bland image and mediocre music pushed her over 300K. Billie gave us a masterpiece. Oxytocin > Olivia’s career.

Oxytocin should’ve been called „bad things” and served as a lead single followed by HTE.
