Massive growth as from dance-pop to... dance-pop?  

 

The quality has improved, but she's been doing the same genre her entire career. And before you come screaming "disco!!1!1", not all of Future Nostalgia is disco, and disco is still a part of dance pop genre.

By these standards, almost nobody actually changes genre

 

Katy made dance pop her whole career

Gaga went from dark dance pop, to dance pop, to folk pop, back to dance pop

Taylor started with country pop, and switched to regular pop

Ellie started with folk pop, did dark pop, and now does standard dance pop

 

So of course, looking at it that way Dua started with dance pop and currently excels at disco pop.

Ummm she’s a basic girl at heart tbh but she struck gold with future nostalgia.  It’s definitely not a basic album.  
 

im glad she’s repeating the disco sound.  It might just be for a soundtrack but I just didn’t want her to go back to DL1 sounds.

This. The fact that FN spawned a bunch of copycat singles/albums from other artists because it was so successful doesn't mean that DSN and FN are retroactively basic

Dance-pop to dance-pop is the same as pop-rock to pop and country-pop to pop (Taylor actually went from pure country with her first album)? Dance pop and disco are the same genre of dance music. Folk pop, country pop  or pop rock are not dance pop. Why do I have to tell y'all the basics?

Miss Camila showed more diversity with jumping between latin pop and dance pop, but ok miss dance pop-only.

Every artist I listed made pop music, just subgenres of it. Same with Dua.  It's really not that hard to understand

Oh please… If Dua is “SO basic”, than what can you say about Katy Perry, Ava Max, Selena Gomez, Bebe Rexha, Ariana Grande, Justin Bieber, Camila Cabello. Those artists used the same type of sound for most of their careers, no artistic growth whatsoever. What can you say about them? Basically they’re industry plants. Even the person in your profile picture didn’t evolve until her 3rd album so, I think Dua is in a good position, currently working on something different for her 3rd album while also giving us one last taste of her previous era.

but her first album isn't even strictly dance-pop  sure its generic pop but if you've actually bothered to listen there's dance-pop, pop rock, ballads, and even some r&b moments

 

and future nostalgia while being under the umbrella of dance-pop is clearly different to songs like new rules or be the one
