We hear a lot of talk of flops and bombs on atrl but I think being specific about what a flop is vs. what a bomb is might help us understand each other better.

To me, flop is bad but not as bad as a BOMB. Like it might be an album that has some acclaim but tanks commercially. But can something flop and bomb? What's the difference?

A flop would be something like EMOTION then - critical acclaim but flopped commercially

A bomb would be something like Robin Thicke's Paula - critically panned AND a commercial bomb.

A flop is Legend X  Bionic, a bomb is Nelly Furtado The Spirit Indestructible.

and?

I feel like Flopping is underperforming for your standards. Flopping is more specific. Like If an alt pop girl usually does 100k debut numbers then it would be good for her if she debuted with that but it would be a flop by MPG standards. Now bombing is universal. Its like an album or song serving out-out. Or maybe charting top 70 then falling off. :skull:

This feels legit. Bionic was a flop but is warmly remembered. To me a bomb would be something like Britney's Glory or Lotus - both bombing commercially and being panned and forgotten.

this :cm:

i would also make underperforming its own category above flopping, which in most cases means barely staying consistent but it still being successful imo

there’s a possibility of bouncing back from a flop but a bomb is usually (mainstream) career-ending

BOMB is flop of the flops

As an example- Artpop flopped, Lotus bombed.

Flop = underperformance, ala ARTPOP

Bomb = tanking, ala Liberation? Idk

Glory wasn't really panned at all

This is partly true. It's not as panned as some other bombs but it's chart run is terrible and it's definitely a commercial flop and not remembered.

Britney Jean might fit the bomb standard more due to the more universal panning on top of the rest.

Ciara’s Fantasy Ride was a flop. Ciara’s Beauty Marks was a bomb.

this^

also,

Christina's Lotus and Bionic were flops

Christina's AGUILERA was a bomb

Bombs are carreer ending flops such as Bionic, Smiley, Paula... something you cant recover

I hate that everyone is using Xtina as an example of bombing and I hate that I thought of her too. :jonny2:

flop- Say So remix

bomb- Trollz & Familia
