I came across this funny aoa/sistar video, and I couldn’t help but notice how idols had a darker skin across the board, even the ones who were “lighter” still appear darker than the average idol today. It gave me a moment of realization of how big the issue is and has grown under the radar. 

 

Whitewashing was already a problem in Kpop (mostly in mv’s and photoshoots), but now seeing an idol with a natural normal korean color is quite rare. The lighting everywhere they go and whatever idols take/do to lighten their skin are a MUST.

 

It’s like idols wouldn’t be caught dead flaunting an ounce of pigmentation now.

It's literally insane when you think about how many steps backwards Kpop has taken in terms of the diversity of skin shades and the increased conservatism. Like why have sexy concepts died? Why are there barely any tanned idols debuting?

 

It's just so weird when you consider how Lee Hyori was such a huge force back in 2003..fast forward to now and all those attributes she had are at an all time low in Kpop. You would've thought that with Kpop and Korean culture becoming a bit more westernised that this wouldn't be as much of a problem.

The lightest member of a 2nd gen gg/bg would be average light in current day gg/bg

 

Basically now if you ain’t light you have little to no chance of succeeding or being praised for beauty

As a result, exactly three shades of foundation range exist in SK: milky, snow, and fair dew ☠️ This resulted in even the tannest sexy idols looking like ghouls. And it also doesn't help that despite there being tanned icons, the TRULY legendary visuals have all been pale as f*ck. On top of that, being tan was always part of your identity, and that wasn't always a positive thing.

 

And while idols were fine being tan, being an idol also wasn't seen as something you should aspire to be, unlike being an actor/actress. Actresses have been pale for a long time now

What you're saying also makes sense, however the OP was literally excited that she commented, which feeds on the hate though, and people are now also using her post to throw even more hate at the groups mentioned in the tweet.
