I think it was bound to happen - After Like was riding on Love Dive’s coattails - it was highly anticipated because Love Dive was still really big among all kpop fans and everyone was there for them… but the song was just okay and didn’t have that crossover appeal LD had, it was almost impossible to replicate LD’s success, then scandals happened and their singles’ reception is definitely affected 

 

LD was sultry and modern, something fresh with crossover appeal

AL and I AM both have that retro vibe which is a bit overused now and only certain people will like it

On that MNET show I-DLE talked about how it affected them. Which is the reason why their fanbase grew exponentially. Because during the year off, while Shuhua decided to go back as a trainee (yes she took vocal and dance classes), Minnie and YuQi took the maximum of jobs they could in their countries which helped the group as the girls popularity. Miyeon said she appeared as much as possible on tv, radio and did live almost every week at least once to entertain the Korean fanbase, while soyeon worked for almost all the year long on their album.

I don’t mind that at all, she can sell everything with the voice she has (and after some time you’re getting used to that and actually understand what she’s saying )
