The Gift / EIL weren't indicators. Why?

Featured Replies

When Bey released her (excellent) side projects in 2018/19 and flopped ATRL was divided into two groups A) The ones who claim this is a reflection of her declining popularity and B) Those who don't think this reflects on her status whatsoever and that her next studio album will do great.

Renaissance was released and it seems like the latter were right.

Why?

EIL rollout was botched in favor of TIDAL (asinine) & then they both essentially disowned it after the disaster of a first week. The fact that it's on neither of their artist pages on the streaming services says it all.

I thought this thread was going to be about The Gift and EIL not influencing the sound of Renaissance, I was going to refute that because there's quite a bit of Afrobeats and Bey rapping.

Success-wise, Renaissance doing a lot better than those two projects is not surprising. I know we say a lot here that the GP doesn't think about pop music the same way we do, but one exception to that is that I think most people are able to discern when something is a studio album or just a side project. Most people viewed The Gift as just a soundtrack, and weren't going to perceive a shorter collab project with Jay Z as a "Beyonce album".

a side project can smash and be successful (see: a star is born). there’s no reason eil/the gift couldn’t have been successes, the gp just didn’t care about either of them. an artist as big/talented/acclaimed as beyoncé is allowed to have couple flops and still has the potential to come back strong. not every artist is a christina/katy

The Gift was literally a soundtrack that has Beys involvement but isn't majority Beyonce singing. Also the rollout was weird af ( Spirits surprise release, little to no promo on the release of the soundtrack with a random disney specialon a Saturday, releasing a short film that was successful but doing it a WHOLE year after release)

The Carters was just a messy side project neither one acknowledges outside of APESHIT.

Anyone thinking this was an indicator of decline was delusional.

The haters had convinced themselves and now they are having meltdowns left and right

Homecoming was a better indicator of what to come because a live ablum doing that well showed there was still a need for Beyonce music with some actual promo.

If Renaissance was released as a surprise album...I dunno if it would make as much noise as it has. The surprise album doesn't work anymore...especially of the album is bad ( look at Drake for example). The fact she went with a semi-traditional rollout ( except for not releasing the damn Music Video!!!) probably helped alot.

I love Beyonce and even I didn't check EIL out because I don't enjoy Jay. The Gift was a soundtrack album with music that literally wasn't in the movie (except Spirit), the only connection was Beyonce and very loose themes from the film, if people wanted to check the Lion King soundtrack they would check the classic Elton John songs. It's still a masterpiece but it was just a creative experiment for Beyonce and a way to showcase african talent.

lets see where this album is in a month lol. yall are so quick to jump to conclusions

taylor already surpassed her daily

NO PHYSICAL ALBUMS for Homecoming or The Gift.

EIL was not requested by either fanbase, but still sent 5 records to the Hot 100 and won a Grammy.

/end thread.

(BTW.. Dear Monsters who created that Beyoncé album sales roller-coaster ? GIF..... I'm hoping to see some modifications on Monday. Can't wait.)

We tried telling the ignorant haters that her side projects weren't indicative of her draw and power.

They ALL have learned the hard way though. Bey came and destroyed each and every hater talking point.

Effortlessly. No video, no gimmicks, no surprise album, no touring bundles.

Except ASIB soundtrack isn't a side project in the same vein as The Gift.

TG is literally a companion soundtrack that was released later after the official soundtrack.

So, no, they aren't comparable in the slightest. It's not the official soundtrack and no songs were featured in the film.

Yep, and that's why side projects are not indicators. ASIB was huge and Chromatica, a main project, was a bomb.

Even Bey’s side projects won multiple Grammys. They’re artist who’s studio albums that can’t even achieve that.
There’s your indicator

Beyoncé lurks and listens to the fans begging her to go back to pop and making fun bops again and she did just that. In my opinion, she listened to her fans and she herself was also in the mood to have fun after three serious projects .

The fact that they were REALLY using this as in indicator of her relevancy for years. I hope y'all stomachs are HURTING! :ahh:
