Why are her hits short lived? Was she a quick lil hits artist?

She was left in the past.

Love her but this is kinda true. When I was young I didn't know any song by her despite her being a huge name.

However, she does have a lot of huge hits, just not THAT kind of once in a lifetime big. She probably has 10 hits more remembered than whatever Mariah's 2nd biggest hit outside AIWFCIY is

I'd count Like a Prayer (and recently Hung Up). 

And why are we acting like having one defining hit for your career is good thing?

Hmm… we say this now but it’s Madonna. You are all so short sighted. Multiple of her songs will go down as classics that are undeniable and universal. They already have in so many ways
