OVERHEAT. NIGHT is Chisato Moritaka's 2nd single. It was written by Hiromasa Ijichi (SPEED, Amika Hattan) and produced by Hideo Saito. it only hit no. 24 upon the release, doing slightly worse than NEW SEASON. For some reason, Ijichi decided that put 'night' in the titles of 4 whole songs on the album.

Marionette is an album track from Akina Nakamori's 9th album, Fushigi. It was the first album that Akina executively produced. According to the legend, when people bought the album, they thought that their copy was faulty due to Akina's subdued vocals, althought it was working as intended. Akina specificially sought the assistance of EUROX, an obscure rock band, and Minako Yoshida, who was an indie darling. While working on the album, Akina was inspired by Mike Oldfield's Tubular Bells, a song from which was used in The Exorcist. Many contemporary critics pointed out that the album will be especially great for horror fans. They also referred to the album as 'occultic, anxiety-inducing', although one could say that the general reception was positive. Once discovered by western music connoisseurs, Fushigi also received a lot of acclaim. Despite the 'controversy', the album hit no. 1 and stayed atop the charts for 3 weeks, ending up as the 15th most successful album of 1986. Akina re-recorded some of the songs, including Marionette, for Wonder, a mini-album from 1988. Those versions prioritize the vocals, though the production was entirely different. Perhaps she took the criticism from the fans to heart and wanted to fix something?

Suilen: That was a classic, that was a classic. However, while I may like Fushigi as a whole, I won't deny that Akina downplaying her vocals was detrimental. Yes, the production is eating, and some vocal effects are cool, but how you remove arguably the defining feature of your artistry. Fixing it on Wonder didn't really help, the production inferior. A hypothetical third version of Fushigi when both the production and the vocals are top-notch would've been the best thing ever.
 

It makes me think of standing outside a club faintly hearing the music from outside

a great song regardless of the qualms that i have with it!

Koi Hitoyo is Shizuka Kudo's 6th single. It was written by Goro Matsui and produced by Tsugutoshi Goto. Its original title was 'One Night of Dreams'. The song was used to promote an open-air museum. It was the first no. 1 hit of the Heisei era and became the 6th most successful single of 1989. Shizuka performed it at Kohaku while suffering from a fever. Maki Goto covered the song for her EP Gloria.

CATCH ME is Miho Nakayama's 11th single. It was written and produced by Toshiki Kadomatsu. He had previously fully produced ANRI's Timely!! and COOOL. The song was Miho's first no. 1 hit, and it became the 38th best-selling single of 1987. The album version of the single was featured in one of Miho's doramas. Due to the song's extensive promotion, Miho had to be hospitalized with streptococcosis, which caused her to miss out on many TV program and award ceremony appearances.
