The second Showa rate, tentatively titled 'The Showa era singer-songwriters' is coming next year, January or February. Some many find the term 'a city pop rate' more accurate, and while all of them definitely dabbled in city pop, not all their songs are going to be that, and we're going to have some synthpop, funk and even folk. The Japanese term 'new music' covers all of them, and it's basically synonymous with city pop there, but it's unknown in the West, so using that will only confuse people. So it's singer-songwriters for now, and it's true: all of them wrote for themselves and for other people, as we saw with Shizuka and Miyuki here. Some took time to get there, like ANRI and even Mariya, but they got a hang of it.

 

The line-up will probably look like this:

I've actually been thinking about reviving it this year. As you said, there's been enough releases from the relevant girls. I did also think about doing a Best of 2020-2025, since we haven't had the rate in a while. Thinking about it.

Mine as well! To me CELESTIA is exactly the type of direction Kuu should be going in and should've been the main song of the single. Also really love Curly hair but CELESTIA is beautiful. CUBE took a little while to grow on me, but it's not bad and still enjoyable. Kind of a better updated version of WATCH OUT that should be fun as a tour opener. Solid EP overall.

I was hesistant about watching the new Kana Nishino since the previous one was boring and uneventful but damn, she really did serve with this new one, loved it!

She also has a new japanese album ready apparently, not sure how it'll develop now with the knee surgery and stuff.

 

 

I listened to Crystal Kay's debut album a few days ago but I need to listen again... I'm surprised it was described as "acoustic" because there are some really cool things on the album, including heavy auto-tune on レッツすいかどろぼう ... AND she was 14...
