I mean, maybe it should win after all since it sounds good, I'm sorry to say. I would like to imagine they spent time editing and refining the sound after it was generated, like they would with any other song, but I don't know. It still seems phony to me, but maybe I'm just being an old geezer about new technology.

Obviously AI sucks, but I simply have to laugh at her so vehemently not wanting to go into the booth that she hired a team to make a computer sing the album for her

AI aside I find the Yumi song really boring. My moral compass lives to fight another day.

Hmmm, I've been reading a few different articles about Yumi's album, and it sounds like she recorded new vocals but they altered them using AI to make her sound like her 1970s self, then combined that with her new vocals to create a "third voice." Seems more like they used the AI as a production tool instead of simply AI-generating some BS to sell.

I think I'll keep my original score, but if anyone wants to drag the song or argue why it's an unethical/inexcusable use of AI, I'm open to that.

I'm not sure if she actually recorded the vocals, it sounded more like that app was trained on her discography, so they combined something she recorded recently with her debut stuff. The Japanese articles I read also had her express disappointment with the fact that AI produced gibberish when it comee to lyrics/melodies, so she had to do those herself, and the production still involved real musicians, but she feels open to using AI for everything... once the technology is advanced enough. So yeah, her use of AI is probably the most ethical out there, though it's up to people to decide where they draw the line.

It's hard to draw a line without being there in the studio, of course My gut reaction is to pan and say it's automatically trash because of AI use, but is that really fair to the real musicians who spent time working on it to make it what they wanted instead of taking whatever the app generated as face value? I guess that's the thing: why not simply put that energy into making something real?
