I'm conflicted. The bar is in hell after Friend of Mine, Believe It and Lift Me Up (sorry, I loved Born Again though) so this seems GREAT in comparison.

 

But on a more neutral scale? It's giving TTT filler in the vein of We All Want Love or Fading so... not great

It doesn't really make sense to compare a song made specifically for a Smurfs movie vs. the material from her studio albums though.

 

That being said, *and we've yet to hear the full studio version*, but "Anyone" sounds like it's easily on par with her best soundtrack work imo. I genuinely think if this was 2016 during the Anti era everyone would be praising it, but nowadays there's animosity from fans towards Rih (due to the hiatus), which makes for more severe critics.

The song is okay. It absolutely does not compare Towards the Sun though. It's just miles better than anything she released since 2017. I'm just happy it's a drum heavy ballad with some sort of melody instead of another LMU. And she sounds great. Which reminds me how that voice has just been going to waste for all these years. And now I'm pissed again.

I've heard over 2 minutes of it and it's cute. Only needed to hear a minute of it to see that it doesn't compare to Towards the Sun though. TTS could even be on Anti with a few sonical/lyrical tweaks whereas Anyone sounds like a TTT rihject. I'm not hating on it though it's not bad at all

Towards The Sun is overrated. It's cute but it's also too long and plodding. I like the vocal layering in the verses but then it gives way to a really lacklustre chorus. 

 

This song isnt going to be anything special but it's on a par with Born Again/TTS. 

 

I think Sledgehammer and As Real As You And Me are probably her best soundtrack songs.

Never liked Sledgehammer personally, my favorite soundtrack songs of hers are probably As Real As You And Me & Lift Me Up. I think Anyone will be up there too

I'm not going watching this movie just to hear this song if that's the trick they're pulling. 

Tbh I don't really use any of her soundtrack songs, could be a subconscious thing where I just associate soundtrack songs not being as good as her album tracks though  

 

Born Again and the remix by Mentol is the only one(s) I use, and DITD for an occasional bop

smurfs always get panned which is why i gave her a side eye when the first news about her doing this movie came up, should've done cocomelon or something instead.. even Home 2 would sound better

Descriptions of Anyone giving Fading/Complicated don't make me feel too good  Especially insinuations that it's better than Lift Me Up a genuinely incredible song that gays can't appreciate. But perched to hear it still I guess

Even the producer of the song is in the dark whether the song will see an actual release or not.
