If anything, whenever we judge Gaga's vocals we refer to her tone rather than her vocal skills (less ScreamGa). Nobody can't deny she is an amazing singer.

It also takes an immense level of technicality (and talent) to sing while performing. I think Gaga's DWUW performance (AMA I think?) shows how excellent she is at this. No one else can do that performance, not even Beyonce.

You can have all the technique you want and still not be one of the great singers of our time. 

 

Björk at her prime was considered to be one of the best vocalists ever and her technique is pretty much horrible, but she makes it work because of the way she transmits.

 

Gaga is a better vocalist because she sounds amazing, but she also sounds personal and can adjust it to many genres without losing her touch. 

 

I'd rather have Gaga, Ariana or even lesser vocalists like Rihanna than an impersonal voice

Why are we all of a sudden debating Gaga's vocals and abilities in 2024? She's proved she's one of the best singers in the world today and there's enough room for everyone. You can't really compare Gaga to Whitney or Gaga to Beyonce or Gaga to Kelly or whoever you want because all have different styles and abilities and that's what makes them the BEST! There's no such thing as only one best singer, there's way too many of them to discredit and only name one!

i mean tone and that kind of stuff is pretty much subjective tbh

for example many people love rosés tone and call it unique but her technique is very subpar and shes a below average vocalist

imo a better vocalist will always sound better than a less advanced singer just cause the way they sing is the most optimal way and the sound is the best it can be 

(taeyeon has a beautiful tone while being a really competent vocalist (at her prime))
