It’s so impressive to watch and I think Solo is as well so they Def get it from there parents . Like I discovered Princess Loko, Fela Kuti, the black national anthem, and now Black Country music and many other stuff from Beyonces latest projects .

 

She is always giving love to obscure artists which is great even though I know the inspiration gets her pummelled at times I can’t lie. Beyoncé has schooled me alot on artists like an episode of  Unsung  .

 

What people also don’t give Beyonce alot of credit on is how much her music is tea /true to life and actually very personal . People drag her for being private but I don’t think I’ve ever heard a song more personal than Ring Off or an album more personal than Lemonade .

I remember that B'Day quote where she said she makes records for Black people. It got a lot of backlash at the time and if you google that quote you'll find many posts on other forums (I think like Lipstick Alley and such) where, much like the Formation controversy, she was accused of being racist, etc. I remember it being reported that after she said that, B'Day's sales went down 70% the following week. I don't if that is fully because of the quote (because it's not like it was MAJOR news at the time) or just a natural post-first week dip but still, it clearly had some effect.

 

And I love how she is a student too. I think she doesn't get fair credit (especially in the conversation a out her "relying on samples") for being more of a scholar of art/culture rather than the "copycat" she's accused of being. Everything she does is incredibly thought out and even her most blatant samples (ie. taking beloved hits and redoing them) like Naughty Girl have a polish and sophistication that simply is nothing like the cheap sampling of so many others. And you sense a feeling of love and respect for the source material, which comes out in the excellence of the music, rather than her just wanting a hit. I think of Lemonade's samples as being especially brilliant because a lot of the meaning no one would ever know until you go and read about the samples themselves. Like DHY's being a Led Zeppelin sample but that song also being a cover of a song co-written by a Black women in the 1920s.

I'm so shocked at the US performance compared to the rest of the world though, especially with such a US centric sound

Don’t get me wrong but I feel like with this new billboard thing a track can easily be #1 yet not be a true hit if that makes sense. And because I don’t live in the US I wanted to know the true « feeling that’s why I asked.

Like for example everyone around me in Paris feels like the song is everywhere. It 100% viral + more and more played everywhere. Truly feels like it’s becoming a hit here

People talk about it here in the US quite a bit, but it seems like most are already tired of it lol, at least on my socials and the people directly around me.

I think two things are happening at the same time:

 

- US is starting to show their ageist side towards Bey more and more

- WW its like a final acknowledgement that she is INDEED a global legend. Especially in Central Europe, its almost as if radios and media are like "finally this is a song our audience will enjoy and can relate to"

Renaissance debuted with 332,000 units and break my soul wasn't a huge smash hit like Texas hold Em so of Course Cowboy Carter will outsell it first week.

yes but the era was announced with preorder and they were on sale for longer, it also had comeback hype. the announcement of cc preorder was less of a big deal, especially since the album was already announced weeks before.

 

i'm not trying to be negative i just wonder if cc will have enough time to sell on par with ren. streaming will definitely be great though

The day she wiill post on her insta feed the cover + story about the album like she did with Renny will be the true reveal + boost the pre orders so I cannot wait

The cover is gonna SCALP us I can feel it.
