A lot of people are saying Katy/Nicki/Gaga can’t smash anymore because they’re in their late 30’s.. However Gaga and Nicki got a #1 last year and Mariah tops the charts every year being in her 50’s.. So what’s the truth?

For now, radio helps most with longevity for singles on the hot 100 and yes, radio is still extremely ageist. 

Sia currently has 48 million listeners on Spotify (20th in the world) while being 45 and getting “cancelled” because of the movie Music. So, no.

Ageism exist in everything. A lot of younger people don't stream older artist because it's not "cool".

She hasn't put out a solo album since 2016, how do you expect a hit ? ML numbers or hits it doesn't matter if we're talking about ageism

No, Taylor is of old age and shes smashing. 

Probably, but who cares. The artists who don't get big streaming numbers are already superstars who don't have to rely on a 14 year old girl listening to them on a loop to get a "hit".

ageism play huge part on radio but label/stations cant control viral meme recurrent, if taylor were 40 and she would pushed for forklore TV, people gonna stream ha.

 

overall no but main demo for streaming is 18-30 if they like recurrect new mashup hit, they will stream or ignored.

 

OT:  by these logic, yes Katy/Nicki/Gaga can get back in streaming/chart if they try with right smash songs

That LSD project received massive push but she couldn't replicate her previous album success 

 

Katys catalog is pulling strong numbers. even now with strong material she can pull good numbers (NRO, HiH) but yeah. They were all huge in itunes and youtube era. 

Katy’s material has been terrible; it has zero to do with her age. With the black hair she looks like a goddess of eternal youth, she just pumps out garbage post Chained To The Rhythm.

LSD project doesn't count. It's not her own album. That's why I'm saying solo project. 

Absolutely. It’s mainly directed at older or ageing artists. They get little to no promotion on streaming platforms, and when they do its mainly focused on older hits 

It affects women and non xmas classics

Yeah, probably more so than radio. Because some radio formats still play older acts.

Radio might be ageist. 

I think streaming platforms are less ageist. Gaga got a big hit with ROM and seems to be doing pretty well. Nicki is a mess, but I think she could still do well.

Katy on the other hand..her material hasn't been that strong and aside from NRO and Small Talk she didn't really get any push on streaming. Despite the lack of streaming payola, her numbers are surprisingly good.

How did Mariah do with her last studio album? Did her studio album surpassed 150M Spotify streams?

 

She's #1 every Christmas but not with a current song...

 

Yes ageism exists with streaming. Older acts don't have as much platforms to promote their music. Radio alone ignores them
