"I Like It" Certified 8x Platinum

Featured Replies

How can it be eligible for diamond if they just certified it 8x plat yesterday? Did it do 2M more units in a day or sumn? :psyduck: If it was eligible for diamond, it would have gotten it, and it very well may eventually.

Big accomplishment of course, just pointing out the lack of logic in the tweet. :psyduck:

I think diamond certifications take awhile to pass through, and more money. They're probably slowly building it before her next era. Like bad guy was certified platinum when it had already sold over 2M units, for example.

OT: Congrats. IOP was a smash era :clap3:

But why would they bother paying to certify only part of what it's actually done? :psyduck: Why pay for the 8x plac if it's already at 10M like the tweet implies? I get if it's at like 8.4 or something between what they're certifying and the next threshold, but to claim it did 2M more than what it was literally just certified the day prior is very illogical. :psyduck:

It costs more money and more time. So if they're trying to build hype the easiest thing labels do is just certify it one platinum plaque at a time. It's definitely stupid but labels want to save as much money as possible. Explains why some take forever to certify their artists' music in the first place  :toofunny3:

But the payment isn't determined by how many units are being certified (unless you're not a member of the RIAA, which I'm assuming most big labels like Atlantic are, and even then, I don't think the cost isn't by amount of units but amount of thresholds being certified). From their website:

To cover the time and expense incurred by our certification and audit teams, we require the following fees:

  • RIAA member companies: $350 per certification
  • Non-members: $450 per level of certification (must be prepaid)

Please also note:

  • Any requests that do not meet the Gold & Platinum Program requirements will still be charged the full audit certification fee.
  • If multiple sales levels are certified simultaneously, the audit certification fee is only charged once per title to RIAA member companies. Non-member pay per level of certification requested.
  • If your company is requesting your first certification audit, we require that you also cover any travel expenses by our independent auditor.
  • A 30-day time limit is set for pending certifications. If a full audit cannot be completed within this time, $100 will be rendered to member companies and $200 to non-member companies.

$350-450 per certification cannot be that much for these multimillion dollar labels, I don't get why they're so stingy with it. :toofunny3: If my music moved these big numbers I'd just pay for the certs myself like damn. :lmao:

Tbh. I actually have no idea at this point. I'm just making up excuses because my faves labels haven't updated sh*t.

Sometimes it makes no sense (like Shallow being eligible for 5x plat yet stuck at 1x), but in cases like this, there's just no way it's eligible for 10x when it was just certified 8x yesterday. :toofunny3:

What a song this was. The video. The performances. Everything perfect. What an era.

deserved :clap3:

It probably has to do with a lot of the ODS being UGC, that's been making people inflate SPS and then the RIAA will be much lower. Like when people thought OTR was diamond way before it actually was.

that means her lead single is SO COMING

are they certifying bodak yellow too?

I think they will certify bodak yellow before the album release tbh so maybe feb-April

what I don’t get is why they certify one at a time.

it was 8x platinum bound at the end of 2018 (dec)

it just became diamond eligible  a couple of months ago.

i guess they will just wait until after bodak and maybe this summer certify I like it diamond.

im sure maroon 5 will re certify  girls like you 9x platinum or straight to diamond before their upcoming album too.

kudos to cardi :clap3:

There’s no lack of logic in the tweet

what’s illogical is that labels notoriously pull this.

i say it’d make sense to certify it ASAP and then once it slows down wait until it seems it’ll not longer have traction and update but labels for some reason do it one at a time. Maybe for audit purposes and also they certify we as well.

i know my fave has 40m undercertified albums and singles in the US alone and it makes no sense.

janet Jackson’s rhythm nation sold 8m but is only certified 6x platinum for instance

it’s strange

This reminds me of when artists were on Twitter attempting to get their songs certified diamond but Riaa said nah you have two million fake numbers.

so anything is possible.

history has shown labels are just slow at upgrades but maybe they are double checking the numbers as well.

Why are the Barbs nowhere to be found in this thread?

because Super Bass, Starships, Bang Bang, and FEFE are all eligible for 8x platinum or higher, so what do we need to come in here and start mess for? Lol congratulations I guess.

Don't come for me, I love Nicki as much as I do Cardi. I just found it weird that no Barb left a comment about Cardi's achievement.

How do you say this when maroon 5 girls like you is only platinum and eligible for 9x platinum?

i guess you don’t think it’ll hit diamond this year.
you might be surprised.

You already know if it’s an achievement barbz arent coming in unless it’s to be messy

same way if it were a nicki achievement

this goes for Britney vs xtina, gaga vs Katy, Taylor vs Katy, Selena vs Justin etc.

stop it x5:lmao:

this is actual a change of pace because there are going to be some threads that’ll be messy but accomplishment ones shouldn’t be.

that said, lurking was evident based on the response to your original question.

i have a feeling it’s going to go this way:

-bodak will go diamond in March/april

-those other 3 songs that are eligible for platinum will be certified so they can say she has all songs from her debut album platinum or higher which might be a first unless billie gets that.

-her debut album will be certified 4x platinum before album release and if they include those three songs on a deluxe edition it’ll go 5x platinum in 2021

-maroon 5 will have girls like you certified. Diamond this year probably by summer or maybe late fall

-then eventually I like it and other songs will get certified diamond

That would also be an example of it being clearly undercertfied though, why would I not think that? :psyduck: But that 1x plat was from closer to when the song came out. 9x plat makes much more sense now.
