James Arthur is coming off of the hit that was Say You Won't Let Go

Craig David hasn't had a hit in the US since 2001. never thought I'd see him top 50 on itunes in the US in this year, if I'm gonna be honest. not trying to diss him but americans haven't checked for him in a while. to see him come out of the gate like this is interesting

voice

5 chloe, total eclipse of the heart

6 addison, a case of you

15 red, the dance

34 devon, i have nothing

41 noah, electric love

45 brooke, what about us

1. Chloe Kohanski Total Eclipse of the Heart (The Voice Performance)

the low bar for itunes #1 is at least providing a lot of variety.

also, she did great w/eclipse.

Seriously how did these random asian artists become so popular? It's known Kpop has some sort of cult following underground but since when did the special snowflake syndrome infested tweens get into it?

Fans have always been there, it's just BTS fans are a certain kind of special. 1D broke up and all the young girls who were just starting to like them had to move on, so they moved onto k-pop, and picked BTS as their victim (just a theory). They REALLY are dedicated to them, it's crazy. I guess the fans in the US realized that they can buy their music instead of downloading it illegally and spam tweets. Streaming is also a huge thing. Western singers get their views from many people, but kpop groups get their views from a fan streaming on all 8 of their phones, 3 of their computers, 10 of their school computers, 2 of their TVs, etc. :rip:

Also Kris Wu..... he was #1 a while ago and I heard nothing about this, he just showed up. How did he even get another song in the top 10 of iTunes? He was in Hollywood movies sure, but I doubt that could be enough for people to check who he is. No one is even talking about it.

I will need a contestant from The Voice to try and sing All I Want For Christmas, just to see the boost on iTunes

giphy.gif

The top 10 is full of nobodies. besides Ed, of course.

Even with the storm of the atrocious songs from The Voice, All I Want For Christmas is still Top 20. A true classic

just watched the voice and i must say, chloe nailed her eclipse performance. is it available on spotify?

Current top songs without The Voice:

1. Havana  $ 0.5620

2. Perfect 0.5009

3. Rockstar $ 0.4581

4. Thunder 0.4297 (0.44-0.45 combined)

^The only songs that are moving decent #s. the rest <35k.

Rockstar 81% of Havana now.

poor Perfect being robbed of the digital #1 song.

Predicting sales this week:

Havana : 71-73k

Perfect : 62-64k

Rockstar and Thunder: 55-56k

12. Kris Wu - B.M. (-10)

that was....fast.

10. Jane Zhang - Work for It

another one? :toofunny2:

I assume the Jane Zhang / Kris Wu songs doing so well is the same situation as the last Jane Zhang song where Chinese fans were using VPN's and US iTunes accounts to get a boost on the charts?

Yup. Now Or Never was really weak on YT too. I'm not really sure what you can chalk that up to (if anything) though. It's intriguing.

My guess is because her songs are really local to the U.S. and compared to other countries (especially Europe), the U.S. uses Spotify over YT to stream music.

While that's true, her YT performance in the U.S. has been weak compared to her Spotify performance.

I suppose you could also conjecture, because this seems to happen with pop-radio-driven artists such as Alessia Cara and Charlie Puth, that the Spotify demographic overlaps more with the pop radio demographic than the YouTube demographic. But that's complete speculation on my part.

BTS is the only asian/kpop artist doing well. They've been on an upwards trend in terms of success since last year and is finally just hitting waves here after the BBMAs/AMAs. The others (Kris Wu/Jane Zhang) are just soloists whose stans are VPN'ing from China hence the freefalls/failure to crack any top download charts outside the US.
