Formation single+video got released a day before 2016 SB where she performed, it peaked at #10. She’s big, but not to the scale stans make her appear, don’t push it :doc:

Girl it was released for free and the video was hidden... then three months later the record goes on sale as a track on her album and still debuts in the Top 10 long after it peaked at radio. It probably would've hit #1 if not Top 5. Don't try it. :celestial5:

Those were hits yet JT is coming close/maybdo 300k without all that. Legend. Tour sold over 450,000 tickets.

Ed didnt have the superbowl though and massive promo before the album release. Just 2 songs. JTs problem is he sped up the promo cycle to match the SB performance when he should've released 2 songs ala Ed and let one of them be a hit ( probably Filthy and Say Something) not release 4 songs ins 4 weeks and release the ablum before SB. Even so the GP is clearly not here for the album. But he wouldve had better numbers if he extended the promo cycle another month and capitalized on the SB to release the album.

If this dips below 200k in sales by the end of the week.... :deadbanana2:

But Taylor already did 2million pure and she is likely to sell I would say at least 500k more. Thats about the same Born This Way sold not bad at all imo

"It's interesting how Katy was demolished for trying to be woke and Justin's being criticised for not trying at all."

Cause he could get away with doing the bare minimum and people gobbled everything up.

Not anymore in this era of accountability.

People this time around are really paying attention...so what is it are you doing / saying...actually?

Turns out.... he's not saying much.

Katy didn't get dragged for being outspoken woke.

She got dragged for being "woke" until it didn't have the effect she wanted and ditched that idea all together and went to releasing basic bops which made it seems disingenuous.

Add up to this the claim that she called a black guy the n-word even if it was in 2013. The stale Obama joke that created uproar and the era of accountability bit her in the ass.

Why are his numbers getting lower and lower? :rip:

:dies: That whole era was driven by a staged elevator incident and using social issues to her favor when it’s trendy to do so. She still doesn’t have a #1 single this decade (even after all those collabs) + lost AOTY twice, cry about that. xoxo

She got a #1 last year omg

You rly lost

Her numbers are huge for the current market but the clearest representation of how dead the market is.

Girl, it would've gone #1 immediately if she released it the normal way. Get out.

Tragic numbers

Posted (edited)

I can't at some trying to pull for any and all excuses they can find ("oh, sales climate"/ "not that bad"/ "who expected SB effect to be huge?") All defensive retro-fitting IMO. He's underperforming and there's no denying it.

JT is/was a big Pop star, whose numbers before back that up.

These numbers, which are fraction of what he used to do, point to big issues.

IMO, it's a combo of things:

* He was egotistical enough (or badly advised) to do the Super Bowl. The Janet thing was bound to come up and be dissected. What a lot of folk fail to understand is that she was done so dirty by several entities and JT getting away scott-free and then never really going to bat for her all the way (aka understanding/discussing how his white male privilege made for an opposite experience to hers) almost makes him seem...complicit.

It could be argued that he's being made a scapegoat for something CBS, FCC, Viacom and NFL effectively did to Janet, but he should have been smart enough to know (or advised) what the optics look like and find a way really make good with her PUBLICLY. If even to selfishly get the heat off himself. Again, the optics were ignored and he's seeing the results of that. Because...

* We're in the woke climate and Justin almost seems asleep to things that he (as a White artist who was embraced by Black audiences) should be more aware of. Namely how we cherish our icons + protect and defend them big time (Prince, Janet, Michael). His tone deafness to all of this (after making a career based on Urban sounds) is biting him in the butt now.

* Social media wasn't around when a lot of his "wrongs" were committed. Nipplegate, Prince, drama, Britney etc all pre-date Twitter and the like. So he kinda got away with all that because people only knew/heard what the news or music shows told them. And all of those platforms always had a prescribed agenda (i.e. ignore Janet, drag Britney, prop up JT). Fast forward to now and social media has empowered the "normal" folk to share their opinions and basically call out the BS. Something that's plain to see with the amount of threads about JT's wrongdoings. Now his wrongs are being unearthed (retroactively) and pissing people off in the present. All at once, he's re-angered the Blacks (Janet), music lovers (Prince), and Pop stans (Britney). Worse still he's done so at a time when such threads are what "educates" the younger generation about Pop's past. Now he's a villain and I struggle to see how he'll ever completely shrug it off.

Justin IMO isn't done and will always be able to tour, have decent selling albums, occasional hit singles. But his untouchable era is done. Because once press feel it's ok to lash to the level he's being lashed, it's an uphill battle thereafter. He'll most likely be over 40 by time of next project and we all know how ageist industry is. More so to women, but still.

I see him starting to play the Jay Z games, i.e. calculated collabs and Samsung, Sprint deals to spin the sales narrative in his favour. But the current backlash feels too big and spread across too many groups to ever truly be washed away.

Still out of the top 5 and selling on par with Post Malone, which is a streaming force and has sold more pure sales as well either way? :deadbanana2: Not a good look.

Grasping at straws I see :deadbanana:
