  1. I like the song and what she was attempting to do but the final section just made me wish a better vocalist was singing it. She doesn't have enough in her voice to properly bring a song like that home. She was straining a lot while attempting to adlib at the end. She and her team have done incredibly well with the rollout of this song and taking advantage of the Folded hype. One of the best rollouts I've seen in a long time.
  2. Yeah I'm very curious to see how she's gone about this. Did the guests go back and rewrite/add to their earlier versions? Did Kehlani re-record at to any of her own vocals? If not, she's going to be completely overpowered on the Jo version in particular.
  3. My guess is Neyo and Fantasia. She reposted a viral Folded x Miss Independent mashup a few weeks ago.
  4. I like Muni and that was fine for her but she's simply not a proper vocalist. This is f**king Mariah Carey. Only the best of the best can even begin to do her songs justice. Just an odd choice. Of singers under 40, Tori, JoJo (one of the few vocalists she has cosigned), Jazmine Sullivan, Amber Riley and Ariana would be good choices for any future tribute. Tori was nervous, especially when she had to flip into her falsetto early on, but still a great performance.
  5. I can't believe people are still having this conversation. If Beyonce was simply a vehicle for other people's vision and creative talents, then where are all the other artists creating music and art like she has done for so long? It's obvious that she has her own artistic vision and also that she knows how to use other creatives to help realise it in different ways.
  6. What a weird list. I'm no fan but I don't understand how Lana is below people like Natasha Bedingfield. "based on performance on the Billboard 200 albums chart and the Billboard Hot 100 songs chart" is still pretty vague. Like, is it just total sales units or are albums and singles weighed differently?
  7. Ariana did very well and sounded lovely but Cynthia is just a step above as a vocalist. Stunning.
  8. Your fave thought otherwise.
  9. The firefighter presenter's shocked reaction after reading the card took me out. You know Beyonce finally winning is a big deal when someone completely outside of the music industry bubble reacts like that.
  10. If they didn't want that reputation they could have done it years ago instead of freaking Beck and Harry Styles winning. It's fairly obvious that vote splitting was a factor in the results today. Even if this wasn't her best offering (according to some people anyway), Beyonce has consistently put herself in the race with quality, distinct album releases and things finally lined up for her. Also, the fact that they f*cked her over on previous occasions should be on the voters' minds.
  11. I don't want that. I hope she releases a separate new album within the next year. This is a nice stopgap so she has new material/an era to tour on, which is where she makes most of her money, and she can test the waters as an independent artist rather than diving straight into a full album. Tori isn't independent, btw. She's at epic.
  12. https://www.instagram.com/p/DFGAY1Tue4w/ https://www.instagram.com/p/DFDdzF7uXNp/ The snippets all sound great. The One Last Tiiiiiiiiiime snippet (in her tiktok sounds) is incredible
  13. I can't get over how good this sounds. One of her best choruses of the last decade. Melody, vocals, lyrics and the concept are all completely on point. This is also the closest she has come to tapping into the pop n b sound of her first album. I hope the rest of the song and EP delivers. I also wasn't crazy about the first two singles but I'm hoping that they will make sense in the context of the EP.
  14. Since when is "When I read about him on X..." a legitimate answer to anything? It's freaking twitter. People are going to meme, joke and shitpost about everything. That doesn't mean that this isn't a serious issue.
  15. Am I right in saying that the cheating part is based on a deuxmoi blind item and little else?
  16. She did not write it and she thinks the concept and lyrics are dumb/don't relate to her. It was pushed on her by Warner label execs who said the song would be her path back to stardom (it wasn't).
  17. What a bizarre post for many reasons. Taylor and Rihanna aren't the only successful artists in the world. Success takes many forms these days and she should just keep on making good music and touring for the solid fanbase she has built. The notion that she is too old to do anything is also factually incorrect... she's literally 18 months younger than the winner of best new artist at the grammys... I like this song. It's really sharp lyrically, which is what I was expecting after she really refined her pen on good to know and trying not to think about it.
  18. Ready for that 5 part harmony.
  19. Really enjoying this. Tori's music is too bubblegummy for me in general but that vibe works here. It's clear they went into the studio with the aim of just having fun with their voices and showing off their crazy agility. The "bridge", where they trade runs back and forth (in different ears) before harmonising on a final crazy ascending run is one of the most insane things I've ever heard. The hamonised part sounds like they're racing each other.
  20. +78k streams on Friday after the NMF playlisting. Hope she gets on more pop/uptempo playlists over the week.
  21. Yeah, I think this is probably the real strategy.
  22. Although she didn't directly address this, it seems like How To Touch A Girl flopping, Vincent disappearing, Barry losing interest and her mother already looking for a way out of the industry seems to have been a perfect storm for the The High Road era ending prematurely. She had nobody in her corner pushing for her. Anything actually reached #21 in the UK with no music video so that alone should have sparked more attention. Congrats to her on making the bestsellers list. Hopefully this success will also allow her to write another book in the future on the music industry. I presume some things (like this era) were glossed over due to length/repetition.
  23. Are you sure you're not her controlling ex-manager. She should focus on releasing quality music, period. Whether or not she has a massive hit again, she has built a solid fanbase that will continue to allow her to tour and release music for many years and hopefully it will continue to grow throughout her 30s. A grand comeback to the top of the charts would be amazing but there are artists in far worse positions really.
  24. She said in her podcasts that she's planning to release an EP then tour shortly after and during the tour she will get a sense of what her audience is feeling then she'll release an album. She's also workshopping a new original broadway play so she's a busy lady. My guess is that, after two R&B-heavy projects, she wants to trial out a poppier sound without fully committing to it. Hopefully it is a similar length to TNTTAI rather than a shorter EP.
  25. It's alarming how slow some of you are. She never said she was traumatised or still bitter. She had a disappointing experience with one of her idols when she was 13 and, at the start of her own career, it was a lesson for her in how she wanted to treat fans going forward. That's all it is. Her attending Christina's events actually shows that she didn't let that meeting sour her love and admiration for Christina. She didn't just randomly bring this up out of the blue in an interview. The entire point of a memoir is to revisit old memories and experiences, and meeting an idol is a significant one. She didn't even name Christina becauseher main reason for talking about this meeting was the positive lesson she took from it. If you think she was overreacting, fine. But it's not really that deep either way.
